Some 'Old' photos
Okay guys, here are some old photos I took back in 1966 while on leave in Japan. Please forgive the poor quality of the photos as I was just starting out in phtotgraphy and only had a cheap Kodak 35mm camera without a flash. A friend of mine and I flew from the Philippines [we were in the Air Force] to Japan to visit a friend of his who was a rider in a 1000kim endurance race at at the then new FISCO Speedway. [FISCO = Fuji International Speedway Company] If you look closely at the photos of the bikes you will see the name Yoshimura stensiled on the side of the gas tanks. We were the guests of Pop Yoshimura and stayed in a real Japanese hotel and ate real Japanese food too. I still have my pit pass. These were Honda 250cc bikes that he modified to his specs. In one photo, you can see Pop standing with his back to the camera. He was holding a camshaf in his hands and gringing it on a bench grinder. 4 of the 6 bikes he entered in the race took the first 4 places. Very impressive seeing as he competed against the factory bikes of Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki.

Yes, I have probable driven past the Valley of Temples 30-40 times without knowing what was there. Saw a link to Byobo-In Temple after our last trip and could not wait to go back. There is something about Japanese architecture and landscaping that is peaceful, in sync with the natural surroundings and beautiful to my eyes.
The Byodo-In Temple was built in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant workers in Hawaii who came to work in the sugar plantation fields. It is a replica of the 950-year-old Byodoin Temple located in Uji, Japan on the southern outskirts of Kyoto. RB ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
