I caught this totally by accident tonight. I'm not an astronomer but then I read on the web that there was a "conjunction" of Venus and the moon tonight. That was after I took the shot however. I assume that means the closest passing. Think I missed by just a little. I was darn close though as I took the picture at 9:04 pm and the conjunction was to occur around 9:15 pm.

A Visit from Mr Owl

I was up early drinking a cup 'o Joe in the back yard this morning....hear a ruckus in the trees and grabbed my camera to investigate.......

Ahhh...Mr Owl has come to visit...likely looking for little Mr. Rabbit.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179694022.jpg

But Mr. Bird is none too happy...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179694094.jpg

Mr. Bird starts screaming...getting Mr. Owl's attention...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179694198.jpg

Mr. Owl gestures back.....it is a standoff
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179694228.jpg

Mr. Bird is now very unhappy.....begins dive bombing Mr. Owl
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179694253.jpg

Again and again...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1179694284.jpg

Until Mr. Owl decides he has had enough.....

Ditto!

I saw an owl in flight riding at dusk this weekend. Very odd creatures. Their quiet swooping wing pattern is a thing of nature's beauty I don't get to see enough. Nice pics, brock.

ck, Jack Horkheimer, Star Hustler, featured the moon phenomenon this past weekend. Cool stuff.

Wow Brock, great pictures. What kind of telephoto range were you shooting at to get those pics?

Tirebiter 05-20-2007 07:54 PM

Thanks gents but I got lucky on this one. Its funny how things work out sometimes....Sat. I made plans to get up very early on Sunday to go for a ride in the cool morning Vegas air but dinner with friends ended with the consumption of a couple of bottles of wine between the four of us and then a nightcap ....a not so small dram of single malt....At my "old" age the mixing just doesn't sit well, so I ended up "sleeping in" until 6am and just didn't feel like riding with a minor hangover.....so bring on the coffee and, ultimately, the photo op.

Moto....I was 25 yds out, shooting with a Nikkor VR 200-400mm f4 zoomed in at the full 400mm...on my digital body, that equates to 600mm.......

...just stay away from them when riding! I have no cages and light left anymore... ;)
