You could walk into the door of Southwest Cues right there in Vegas, Tabs. Order a cue, picking woods, veneer colors, rings, inlays, etc. The wait is only around 13 years now.

As someone who first tasted Chinese food when growing up in Asia 50 years ago and who has cooked it himself for 30 or 40 years, let me point out to all of the newbies that you don't need to spend 150 bucks on a wok to cook good Chinese food.

Given tabs' propensity for shopping at the thrift stores, to get something for one cent on the dollar, I'm surprised he advocates this nonsense.

The Shangahi CEN RO Woks (they are out of biz) yes...the street guy or SHANG (they are in biz and have a 2 year back order over night) NO

You have the WOK pictured on the book and the one that William Somona used to sell for $175. I sold one of my 4 for $450.00 on Ebay last year.

I am mostly pointing out the world wide desirability of those hand made WOKS...

Exactly. You could cook it in an old hubcap and no one would know the difference. Like the man said, "it's the Indian, not the arrow".

Granted a good factory made Carbon Steel that you can buy for lets say $45 in the states will do everything a hand made CEN RO will do.

I knew I could get a CEN RO hand made at William Somona for $175, and I wanted to see if if I could beat the William Sonoma price by going factory direct. I did buy one from William Sonoma in the advent that I couldn't get one from Shanghai, once our deal was confirmed I took it back.

My unit cost into the 4 CEN RO's that I bought was $67 each. 2 14", 1 16", 1 18". I sold a 14" for $450 on Ebay. Subtract the $450 minus Ebay fees from the $270 that I had in the 4 Woks, and you get about $120 cash profit and 3 WOKS that are PAID FOR.

CANT BEAT THAT NOW CAN YOU? I did plan on selling one of the WOKS because my Chinese friend changed her mind after the order was placed. I did get real lucky on the timing as I had no idea that it would sell for so much money.

What I did have a feeling about and why I expedited getting on with this project was the notion that the CEN RO's might not be in biz much longer...and THAT GIVEN their almost cult status that they would be a desirable commodity.. JUST LIKE OLD FERRARI'S...same principle.

Let us not mention that I like cooking with them to. They are something a bit different and thus special.

People crave something that is made with the care and craftsmanship of the personal touch. Call it uniqueness. Bright and shiny factory made has no soul it is one of a million uniform units.

The Chinese want the uniformity of the bright and shiny factory made. They have had enough of the one off stuff of the past 4000 years. Give them a 150 years and they will change their minds just as the West has. All the same dreary pieces of plastic...one no different from the other...No distinction, no soul.

Shiloh Sharps rifles here in the states has a 2 year wait. How long for a Purdy or H&H shotgun in the UK?

Ha - point taken. I am somewhat ashamed to admit that I waited over five years for a rifle from C. Sharps arms in the mid '90's, at the height of the BPCR craze. I didn't intend to, though, and was not aware going in - I had received a rifle from them just one year prior, after only a three month wait. I couldn't believe how fast demand ramped up.

Yup. Some things are worth waiting for. I think Shilo is down to just a few months, by the way. Bill Goodman still gets them pretty fast as well, if you are willing to pay his inflated prices.

H&H has guns on hand, ready for immediate delivery, last I checked. I could sell my 911 and get a Royal Grade... maybe...

If you go to the right place in London, about 30 mins, that includes the while you wait sawn off barrel and stock upgrade

I'm jesting with you and totally get the pleasure of owning a hand crafted one off

If I had the money I'd love a made to measure custom road bicycle or snowboard but I can only afford bespoke haircuts
