I don't daily anything since I commute 'down the hall' but sometimes I am on the highway with commuters .. in my Miata or M3 & the other day I saw a guy commuting in his Abarth, I could tell he was having more fun than everyone else..

Agreed in principle, but it's so narrow and tall that from the back it looks like a pot of Yoplait yogurt on wheels. How about the Toyobaru FRS ? I hear you can buy a nice used one and turbo it for $5-6000

Part of the trouble is SE MI has no good roads for a sports car... its all flat and straight... make for fun driving for a muscle car, but little reward for momentum cars, plus winter makes RWD a hassle at times.

The FRS has the identical power and weight as an SC/Carrera.

You don't enjoy driving it (I agree that they can't compare to the precision of a modern car) But, money seems to be a factor for you. Sell it while the market is still strong. Never own a car you don't like to drive. I also swapped out a 2001 era car for the BRZ, b/c I wanted a dead nuts reliable DD. How old a car are you willing to go for a DD ?

Money is a factor for you. You want a newish DD. You like fast. Why don't you get a Mustang? They represent an amazing value. They are fast. You can work on it. You can upgrade it. They are easy to find.

I currently DD a Alfa Romeo Giulia Q4 Ti. But honestly it is much less enjoyable than my Abarth was.
I think the biggest part is the lack of a manual trans. Thats why I am thinking about cars like the Golf R, Chevy SS, Abarth, maybe find a deal on an RS3, Focus RS, (if they fixed the issues), STi, but starting to shy away from the boy racer vibe, and I don't vape. Turboing a BRZ/FRS makes a good car great, as is does to an SC. ![]() Money is a factor for everyone, just depends on the number. lol I would look at a Camaro over a Mustang, The LS is just a beast of an engine, as much as I like the stang. But I'd still rather the Chevy SS over both, rear seats and a trunk would be nice. |

Have you driven a Camaro? The visibility SUCKS. Lots of performance for the money though.
The Mustang is a pretty good suggestion. For 2018 they introduced a Performance Pack 2 with the GT350 magnetic shocks, six piston Brembos, upgraded suspension and stiffer chassis, Torsten LSD, extra coolers, styling upgrades, Recaro, etc. Basically a budget GT350.

Imo, snow is a deal breaker for DD'ing either and unless the Camaro is a convertible (and you enjoy them), the tank driver view is a non-starter.

I DD'd a Miata with snow tires, it was shockingly amazing in the snow. If I think I could do without "performance" on a daily I would consider a Toyota FJ, they are just so cool... maybe if I drove only in ditches it would be a fun DD. lol

I think we’re talking about different things because a Miata isn’t gonna go through real snow and an Evo is too low even with good tires.

Evo's have proved themselves to be one of the most successful cars on the Rally circuit during the 1980s through the 2000s especially on the snow courses, in Colorado lots of daily driven Evos there.
At stock ride heights plenty of ground clearance to tackle snow:

I daily drove a 996 including a 10” snow with snow tires. The tires make a shocking difference.

Detroit Michigan, we get enough snow... the Miata did great! Snow tires are amazing....
Love EVO's I would never put one through a winter... to cool and nice to ruin. |
