As a 356er I tend to think of the '84 thru '89 cars as a pinnacle point for Porsche greatness, just like the 356C/SC marked the peak of their era. But since we had one (now Shaun's) I know what a rough drive they are, what a expensive repair bill they can bring, etc.
The 993 is also the end of the air cooled era... While I tend to think of "classic Porsche" ending with the '89 models I also know that is my own personal feelings and based on my own exposure to Porsches in the wild. If'n you are gonna own it, you should drive it. And since you can drive both but drive one almost exclusively, the logical answer is fairly obvious. |

Like you - instead of an 84 911 I have an 87 and instead of a 95 I have a 97 993.
Ironically my 87's wheels are painted the same color as your 84 - good choice. I'd have a real tough time parting with either one. I drive them both equally & love them both. If you must sell one, sell the one that will sell the easiest and quickest. I'd also go to BAT to bring the most $$$ from the BAT-morons who will overpay all day long. Funny about the 993 comments. I hammered my 'pig' for a good hundred miles today. Yeah, it felt like driving a caddy... .... was really a horrible experience.

Driving the 993, Carrera in storage and driving it occasionally for maintenance purposes. Sounds like you’ve already made your decision.

On looks alone, I’d go with the 911.
As said, use money from the sale of the 993 to fix up the 911. Bank the rest of it |

Put the motor from the '93 into the '84, sell the '84 engine and tranny and part out the rest of the '93.
Kidding. Sort of. Keep the oldest car. I'm tellin' ya. Even back in the day, there never was another car like the lighter 911s. And they ain't gonna make no more o'them. '93 doesn't qualify. '84 does.

Now in 993 land ...

I have had an 81 SC that I decked out pretty well for the track. R compound tires. First time out in the 993, I beat the track times of the SC - on street tires. Granted, the 993 does have a few upgrades, including M030 suspension. It is a matter of "taste" but IMHO the 993 is so much more car than any earlier air cooled 911 out of the box. G |

If you need more money. sell the 993. If you want to keep the one you naturally drive more, sell the 911.

I’ve had both, sold my SC. I put an 86 3.3 motor In the SC and a 7:31 R&P In the gearbox. Made the SC lots quicker. The 993 was still faster. The 993 has “better manners”, not as visceral as the SC yet I think it corners really well. Certainly a smoother ride, but no way is a 993 a pig. Agree the 84 3.2 DME set up will be lower maintenance. I wouldn’t have sold the SC/3.2 except needed garage space for another long hood. If keeping Both is not in the cards, and it sounds like it’s not, go with the one you’ll probably enjoy driving more in a daily basis. As Matt said, Seems like you’ve already made that decision.

I've had both; actually, five accordion series cars and one 993. All were lovely cars, but the 993 (exact color as yours, btw) never inched up last last bit to take the win. Mine felt heavy, a tiny bit numb--power steering!, and a tad too competent. Like I experienced later with various Caymans, it was a bit too unchallenging to drive. But that's me--you have different desires, and you should follow them.
If you like the 993 better because you drive it more, keep it and sell the 911. |

Obviously neither is exactly what you want. Sell both and buy a nice turbo (or your preference) that doesn't need anything...exactly as you want it (color, year, option) Then drive it like you sole it.

i'll take that 84 for 28K immediately, I think you are GREATLY under estimating the value of your cars... by like 10K easily.
