Paul you are making good progress for a one man army I am all too familiar with the 500 times up and down on the scaffolding I can't wrap my head around how you are going to tie into the existing roof so looking forward to additional updates .

Thanks everyone. I keep an aluminum step ladder next to the scaffold so I don't have to climb up the ends of the scaffold. It really helps.

I need to tie into the ridge line of the existing roof on the left. The pitch is about a 2 in 12 so it is pretty flat which means it's a long way from the edge of the roof to the end of the ridge beam. There's a few ways to do this. I could leave the existing roof and deck and build on top of it or tear it all off and frame it all new. Or a combination of the two which I intend to do.

I'll remove enough shingles to locate the ridge beam and pull a string line out to the addition. I'll also remove some of the decking to get to the ridge beam so I can check that my new beam is being set level. Sounds easy don't it? Wish me luck....

June 2 Update:

Wood, wood everywhere there's wood.

Rafter framing had started and I've tied into the existing roof and extending out onto the addition. This work is slow going. Measure, measure and measure again before cutting 2x6x16. The angles can be tricky to keep straight in your head. I've been measuring ridge and valleys using three different tools and sometimes will cut a pattern out of a scarp piece of wood. Here where I am now.........

The rafters are 2x6's but I had to cut a "bird's mouth" or notch to match the existing roof line. Due to this my engineer wants me to add a 2x4x8 to the 2x6. I have a 42" overhang so the extra 2x4 is needed.

I haven't updated you in awhile but here is a pic of the latest progress. This pic is a few weeks old but the plywood roof decking is about 95% as of yesterday. The areas that are open n this shot have all be covered now.

Big event yesterday was that I fell off the ladder I was only a few rungs up but I fell hard on my left side. Blacked out and can't remember the details. I was able to get up and get inside the house. Told wife to call 9-1-1. They checked me out and my wife and daughter took me to the ER at the hospital where I work. We called ahead (always good to be friends with the President of the hospital). They had a team waiting for us. Had x-rays and a CT scan. No stitches needed, no broken bones. Just sore as hell and cuts and scrapes. Concussion probably. Very lucky.

Yes I have some visqueen that I have been using. I was going up to work on it when I fell.

Dude you gotta be careful !!! Sure glad no major injuries but pay attention to concussion symptoms .

My upper body is very sore and left arm in a sling. I got a few guys coming over today to tighten things up for me.
