Saw a few reports today saying Chara has a broken jaw and is done for the year. Since hockey players seem to be the toughest people on earth I'm not counting him out until puck drop on Thursday.
Disclaimer - I'm a 20+ year Blues fan so although I like Chara I'm hoping he goes ahead and starts his healing prospect now. :D Dunn of the Blues took a puck to the mouth earlier in the playoffs and missed 3 weeks. |

3 wks to heal during the regular season sometimes equates to 3 days during the Finals. Bergeron played with 3 cracked ribs and a punctured lung.
I have a feeling that as tough as Chara is, he will want to play. The question for the team is will he be an asset or a liability. He ain't no speedster any more. Besides his experience and wisdom on ice to direct others, his strength this year has been his size and towering presence to protect other players from abuse. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559742702.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559742732.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559742764.jpg He can't fight with a full face shield. I suspect he is done but hey, I've been wrong before. |
Hopefully Chara only misses 2 games. :D

I was thinking more the Blues win in 6 so Chara only misses 2 games. lol

Think again. :p

How goes the old playoff adage?? - anything short of decapitation - the guy is in.
Da Broons defence is pretty beat up - but I know Joe will remind us they managed to trail only the Bolts during the season with a less than complete defensive corps. If Chara's jaw is indeed broken, he'd still be one of the few guys I would bet against not showing up. Though highly unlikely he will & be effective, yaneverknow, he's one tough competitor. Cheers JB |
Hawk is right that they have done well with a less than healthy D this year. Unfortunately in Cup finals everyone is already beat up and without Grz and a healthy Chara the Blues have an edge. We still have some top flight defensemen but the depth isn't there like it should be. At this point I hope that we can rattle Binnington/Allen and score enough goals to offset a weaker blue line. I expect Cassidy to do some shuffling and a new strategy to push the game to run and gun.

yeesh this is the kind of match I HATED. Lots of shots against me but my forwards have only scored once. Yeah Binny is hatin' this one right now.

It isn't looking good for the B's. They needed to get an early lead. :(

Oh, that was nasty....
Or... The new version of four blind refs.... |
I'm a Blues fan and that was a penalty all day long. But, the Blues also got boned by the missed hand pass in OT against San Jose. The Hockey Gods have a strange sense of humor.
This entire playoff season seems to have reached a new level of poor officiating. |
So the million dollar question now is are we done at 6 games ? Or does it go 7 ? Blues can close it out at home , the place will be rocking but there is the extra pressure to perform at home . Bruins will have the pressure of a must win , should be a good one . Inspiring effort by Chara last night that is one tough dude ............ like most of them are .

I have even more respect for Chara now.

As is often asked by those who know the game how the heck is that not called? Clearly a slew foot that both players expected to be called but of course you play the whistle not your expectation of one. And honestly I think Rask misplayed that shot with it bouncing off of the inside of his pad.
Binnington played exceptionally well setting the saves made record for a rookie in a Finals match. Just look at the SOGs stat. To Joe's point Da Broons PP went MIA again last night. With studs like Chara to inspire them I think the Bs come out swinging on Sunday and I expect Marchand and Pastrnak to add to their personal stats. Our wish for a game 7 just might be granted. |

a flukey carom to Perron, to Rask being beaten for the eventual winner, added up to the "perfect storm". "B's" nation has every right to be pi$$ed off - ya win some, ya lose some - or so I'm told. Tip-o-the hat to Chara who gutted this one out. This year's playoffs have no lack of controversial calls. It's a shame a number have figured prominently in the game's outcome. Maybe the 'hockey gods' are having some fun messing with us. Cheers JB |
