Various F1 websites are reporting that Sergio Perez has signed a " preliminary contract " with Haas . If that turns out to be true I think that is a very smart move by the Haas team .

I agree. He's a good fit for that team. He certainly was part of the formula that helped elevate Force India/Racing Point/Aston Martin.

Other news is reporting that Stefano Domenicali will replace Chase Carey as CEO of F1. In other news, Ferrari gets strangely competitive again next year.

It has to be a step up for HAAS, whichever driver they replace.

Either that or he's ignoring the facts of the case for the same reason.

Both are the despicable acts of a weasel.
I wonder if Lewis is printing up new T-shirts for the black female police officer randomly shot at BLM's Breonna Taylor riot in Louisville last night? Thanks for bringing politics into the sport Lewis.

Lewis has clearly been influenced by the vapid celebrities he likes to hang out with. I highly doubt he's done enough independent research to form his own opinions.

I doubt he has the intellect or inclination to do a deep dive into any issue.

Hell of a driver, I'll give him that. Very unimpressive in all other areas. I've been watching him for years, he doesn't seem to be maturing outside of an F1 cockpit. Some days, in the cockpit, he's still a petulant kid. He's going to eclipse Schumacher in the record books but he'll never be his equal as a man.

In my youth, F1 driers were clearly men. Now, they are mostly boys. I don't think that's relative to my age, so much as how they act.

I predict I'll miss seeing his next wardrobe choice.

How about we keep Lewis and his politics out of this thread.

When the doosh lewis brought politics into F1, he bought them into this thread.
But we can at least make an effort to ignore the doosh, and those WHO SUPPORT HIS DOOSHNESS.

He is the reigning world champion, and he will win this year as well. How do we not discuss him? He has been gifted the best car, that never breaks. Well OK he has retired ONCE in over 60 something races. It is clearly a full second faster than any other car on track except his teammate. His only competition is his teammate, and he always seem to find a way win.

It would be like not discussing the lead actor in a movie.

No one can really argue he is not a super talented driver, but a total jerk as a human. He has the rights to have his opinions, and I have the rights to respect his ability, but point out he is a jerk as a human.

You have to wonder about all of the political baggage. When does Mercedes F1 take a look at his off-script branding? It's one thing to have a nightlife, but he is taking it to an irresponsible level. Does any of this help to sell an AMG coupe? If he were to retire from F1, would he have a career in other fields or other series if he chose? Or would sponsors not play along?

Perez is grumbling about not getting upgrades. I’m not sure why. It was unfortunate that Stroll damaged the car but only makes sense what the team is doing.

Perez has a chip on his shoulder about being replaced . In his mind and others may agree he saved Force India from going down the tube . He brought badly needed $$$ to the team and stability in his driving .

I don't blame him for complaining , he feels the team is not sharing data/parts/decision making with him . Only he and the team know for sure if it is true .

Vettel and Perez have been politically correct for the most part in their comments to the press but that could change before the end of the season .

We are talking about them - that's all they care about. "There is no such thing as bad publicity."

The funny thing is, the racing itself hasn't been worth talking about.

Same ****, just about every race. Mercedes wins. Usually a 1-2, with Hambone on top.

You think ? I assume they'll nix Grosjean, or both... We'll find out, but I'm not so sure it's a good move for either... Or more to the point it's a largely irrelevant shuffling of the cards..

If I were Perez I'd have tried for Alfa instead, I think Vasseur is a more proven team manager (as much as I like Gunther's personality) with better connections, and the link with Ferrari is closer. He could use the Telmex money better...

I don't believe Perez is substantially better than either Haas driver in the same car. Hell didn't McLaren replace Perez with Magnussen? Neither set the world on fire with bad cars. Perez has not significantly outshone any of his team mates that I can recall (hulk, Ocon, Stroll). He's good, he's better than us, but not top 3.

None of those guys are bad (Ok I'm not sure about Giovanazzi yet), Grosjean won everything before F1, was on the podium with a friggin' lotus giving Kimi a hard time, most of his mistakes were trying to overdrive a crap car and he lost a ton of opportunities with failures or bad wheel changes... Same with K-Mag, he podiumed with McLaren and got dumped, but look at him now, he's *no faster* than Grosjean on average and often outqualified and whatever scored points diff season over season has largely been retirement based...

It's the 90% the car and their lack of solid engineering at Haas - I get they're shaking things up but they're wasting their time... The driver change is merely a prod for the team mate to not get comfortable... It'll be the end of Perez I think unless Haas somehow pulls off a miracle car next year with more mexican money, but with a Ferrari engine it won't be easy...

I'm not even convinced a Hamilton could pedal a Haas faster, he's more talented than the entire grid except Verstappen (maybe Leclerc?) probably not used to driving around a $hite car. Honestly I'd LOVE to see a december sessions where the top 3 of the championship get to set a fast lap with the worst cars on the grid and compete for a prize.. it'd be real fun to see if they can overcome the crapmobiles any better than the regulars.

Correction then; Let not discuss Lewis's politics in this thread. We can discuss his driving and his team all we want.

Regarding the discussion about HAAS, I think Gunther isn’t a very good team manager and that’s probably where I’d make the first change.

I think Grosjean has made some of the dumbest mistakes in F1 and only Vettle can compete in the dumb mistakes department. I just hope the infusion of Mexican money can bring out some improvement, since it will be hard to do much worse.

I don't know... Would be good to see.. but I think they cannot attract good engineers, those are locked at Mercedes, Redbull, Ferrari (well...), and renault/tracing point have always done OK with their teams... Anything below that they get news kids, also rans, fired people, unless you got a mongo cash infusion from Haas/TElmex to make a push for it, I think it'll be status quo... unfortunately... If you aren't funded by a major manufacturer, you're playing division 2 or 3... Would not be surprised to see Haas pull the plug or sell the team with that new 200 million incentive that was put in place... I'll agree that both Haas drivers definitely has enough time to prove themselves and they're tier 2. Not tier 1. Jsut saying so is Perez IMO... I'd rather Hulkenberg over him...
