Finally installed the crown molding above the new kitchen cabinets. The guy who built the new cabinets to match the old ones is a genius and an artist, but he bailed before finishing the crown molding.
I hate this kind of work. I'm not good at it - at all.

The ceiling was as wavy as a roller coaster. No way I could make it fit tight so I didn't even try.
Also, the molding I had to use was left over from the cabinets that had been removed. I had only enough left over molding to do the job with about 5 or 6 inches to spare. I COULD NOT make a mistake. No do-overs at all. The chances of finding molding of the right profile and getting it stained right (by me) were about 0.

I made this little jig to simulate the junction between the wall and the ceiling. I made some dummy molding to try out cuts to make sure I didn't make any wrong ones.

By the skin of my teeth I go the whole thing done with a few inches of molding to spare.

Decided to take advantage of the time and the beautiful weather to tackle that giant stump I've had since I purchased the house.

When it was all done, bonus, I think I have a nice big fire pit...So the next project is putting down some blue stone around the pit. It also means I get rid of some invasive plants with ground kill...

Getting started

Removed some roots...Making headway

These wedges worked well

Half way done - Note water sprinkler lines completely pinched to left...will have to remove these or move them.

Finally cleared...ready for a new fire pit!

A lot of aches and pains the next day...but I felt like i earned them.

Dayum - that looks like slow-going and really hard work. Great job!

I've built a steel workshop table for my new shop. Several years ago I built a table/cart for my welder and mounted a tool box on it. I removed the welder and toolbox and mounted a hollow metal door to the top. The door is a half door and is 36" x 40". I had to extend the base to support the larger door/top. I have plenty of unistruct so cut some to use as legs and added casters. Also extended the bottom shelf to the new legs. The stainless steel top was salvaged from a restaurant project I was involved with several years ago. I added metal drawers picked up here and there. The two vices are estate sale finds and not made in China. The vices are bolted on. The grinder, belt sander and mini-anvil can be removed.

Wow, you guys are really getting down to business on your projects! Looking great.

Pretty much done with the framing on my current project (laundry room/1/2 bath remodel), and should be done with the roof sheathing tomorrow. Next, build a cricket, new shingles, tear out the old flat roof and install new ceiling joists ... then build up a raised floor with new floor joists to match the height in the rest of the house. Insulation and drywall can be done anytime after the exterior is finished.

I'll be glad when this is all done (preferably before the rainy season hits us), so I can get back to working on a few languishing automotive projects ...

'66 912 motor clean-up, reseal & clutch needed ...

... and install the new 1.9L drive train and new tan upholstery in the '71 914

That is so cool. I don’t have an artfully creative cell in my body. I envy those of you who do.

There's some very cool stuff getting done, nice work!!

One of my to-do's has been the clear out/clean up the attic.
We had a new roof installed about 5 years ago now and the process of removing the OEM shake roof left a heck of a mess all over everything up there.

I knew it was going to be an archeological dig of sorts since the collection of stuff pretty much only been added to and included some of my Father's most cherished personal belongings. He passed back in 1979. My Son and I took time as items were brought down to go through and talk about what we were seeing. Turned out to be a very good experience.

My son did most of the heavy work and the cleaning... hefting a shop vac up and down from there was great fun.

My dad was an artist, photographer, writer, tooled leather etc, etc.
I got none of his creativity other than some level of ability to point a camera in generally the correct manor at times. My Son did get more creativity than I...

Dad's leather supply (still in perfect shape) and leather working tools were up there along with some partially complete leather projects. Holding the mallet he used to tool leather with had an almost electrical feel... brought back the sounds of him working away and the smell of leather only increased the connective feeling. It's been over 40 years since the last time I remember him doing any leather tooling. It only seemed like yesterday.

Also, some history.

Travel info for Canada, the Boeing news from first flight of the 747 and a playbill from one of many plays Dad worked on building sets and running lights.

I remember when Dad bought this metal detector, he was sure he'd more than pay for it with "finds". Not so much from what I recall- the box turned into a home for many of his effects.

Also some of my history- I had forgot some spare VW parts I'd hung onto.

About a third of the stuff is headed to the dump, a third will be donated and a third cleaned and returned to the attic- tons of room up there now... I'll endeavor not to refill it!

Lots of good work getting done. My back was hurting just looking at what Needspace did.
I’m following the Ford tractor resto. Gotta done something similar on a Bullet Nose David Bradley one of these days.

Love that Karman Ghia Mark. To me, visually it needs something at the back end. Maybe the wheel wells opened up for bigger tires.

I do have plans for the back end, but not the wheel wells ... I have a freshly rebuilt trans, new clutch disc & T/O bearing, and a type 616 motor for it ... lol

Mercedes 722.9 transmission service with the new and improved deeper pan and filter. Getting some practice with these, I just did my wife’s car a few weeks ago.
