An 1911 is an automatic.. no debate, they have always been called automatics since the beginning of time.
Hence the caliber names .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) or 45 AUTO.

Automatic pistols predate semi or full auto rifles.
The only automatics before that were the likes of a Maxim which , well, it's a bit of a heavy thing, it's not personal weapon..

So to conclude : A Semi Automatic, is still an automatic, it self loads, automatically.
No human intervention is required to chamber the next round.

That has nothing to do with the trigger mechanism or the ability to fire more then 1 round with a single trigger pull. that would be called "full-auto" Auto load & Auto fire next round.

Both Semi and Full are automatic
a Semi cannot do full auto
a Full can usually also do semi , called "select fire"
While a semi-auto firearm will self load, it still requires a trigger pull for each bullet to be fired. A full automatic only requires one trigger pull to empty a magazine.

I realize that I didn't use the qualifier "full automatic," but I believe it is implied.

The colloquial meaning of "automatic", when referring to firearms, has been "fully automatic", or "machine gun" for at least the last century. Colt did, indeed, use the term "Automatic Colt Pistol" when they first introduced their line of "ACP" cartridges and the pistols that used them. But that term, when used in reference to self loading pistols, has been out of date for at least that last century. Today, they are universally referred to as "semi-automatic" pistols in and effort to distinguish them from the various "machine pistols" available, which do, in fact, have a "full auto" mode. So, yes, your choice in terminology was correct and entirely in keeping with its modern use and understanding.

one day they will figure out how to make the wheels turn away completely and run the bugger on a mr Fusion.
But for now they are rotating in the wrong direction.. They'll figure it out eventually, i'm sure.

If you look again that "stance" is not intentional.
Look for a blue hanging brace that isn't attached to where it should.
However, maybe the picture would inspire the next movement.
