I have had a few comments over the years about Nazi engineering or Nazi technology.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had a negative comment while driving around an old 911. If someone ever made a comment--whether they looked like they had means or not--it has always been positive.

Except for maybe this one time I went to a Cars and Coffee in the 930, and parked next to a woman in a late model Lamborghini. I parked squarely in "my" spot, but nevertheless she asked me to move my car over (the spot next to me was empty, though these seemed to be the only 2 empty spots in the lot). I did as she asked, but I recall some other guy commenting to me about her unreasonable request. We both just took it that some people are snots, and there's nothing you can do about it.

When i was first dating my wife we were out driving the 930. At a light, a guy on her side said to us, "that's still the most beautiful car ever made." I told him thanks and drove off. My wife said, "this car's pretty special isn't it?". She started to get it.

A lot more people would talk to me about my old 280Z than the 930. I think the Datsun is just more approachable.

+1 The 930 wins. The sexiest derivative of the most iconic sports car shape ever.

I had three young men(maybe 14-15) ask me about mine at the grocery store a few weeks ago. Asked if they could take some pictures. I was a bit shocked, didn't think kids were into cars anymore.

I drove my cab home yesterday and my neighbor came over to ask:

'where do you keep the hard-top?'

Me: 'I don't have a hard top for this car, just the soft top.'

'Yea you do, I saw you park here yesterday with the hard top on.'

Me: 'That was my 996, it's ten years newer. And a different shape. And blue. This car is black.'

'Oh....'

Do you also pull up to stoplights, look over at the guy next to you in a Honda, and tell him how you love driving a Porsche?

Did they specifically say by air?

Maybe they are thinking of using an outrigger canoe - worked for settling Polynesia...

Have you ever pointed out a mistake to a spouse only to have them say "oh yeah well you do this..."? It is the brain trying to adjust.

To Bob: I would say that although you don't own a supercar and a plane, you prolly have a level of prosperity above the average Joe and a healthy self respect so you don't need to compensate. Good on ya.
Well you got me there. Appreciate your response.

In my limited experience, most people relate to others from a very egocentric point of view. You have more stuff, you have less stuff, you have a hot or not, wife than mine, more toys, less toys, smarter, religion, politics, etc. Envy and resentment comes from a sense of unfairness, lack of self esteem or just not having matured. Back in college when I was selling my plasma to eat, I was resentful of those flaunting their wealth. I also envied those wealthy to buy a 308GTS because I knew that could never happen and loved those as well as early 911s.

Everyone wants to feel worthwhile and that they are on top of it. Unfortunately there are many who never become comfortable in there own skin or with their life circumstance and one of their misguided strategies is to put others down to feel better about their lot. Unfortunately it is only a temporary fix to their angst so it is repeated over and over. It’s a trap they don’t have the skill to escape.

And yes I have pointed out a mistake or two to a spouse which was a big mistake in itself. Fortunately for me it didn’t devolve into a tit for tat run for the gutter ending up in a “go f yourself.” The biggest thing I have learned is to NEVER offer a solution, unless she asks first. Otherwise I use my fall back, “Wow that really sucks” which is exactly what most women want to hear. Men like to solve problems while women just want to be heard. Frustrating for us problem solvers that want to fix it and move on, but it is what it is.

Weird response to my 911 is being tailgated on two lane roads by yahoos while I’m going over the limit, so I just pull over and let them by.

This also happened while pulling from one Interstate to another by a late model black Dodge Charger with blacked out windows. He was all over my @$$. Since the State Federales drive unmarked Dodges, I just stuck to the limit as he flew past me hunting for a target. He had one in less than a minute.

Another was a woman at Safeway looking at my 73 asked, is that the new one?

I've got a 15 year old grandson who had a few friends of the same age over to the house the other day. The garage door was up and they were all so excited about my early 911! I didn't think kids were into cars anymore either. It was really fun showing the car to them and now I know there will always be an appreciation for beautiful, obsolete gas driven dinosaurs

Maybe only a bit weird, but definitely funny: driving past neighbor, from Ireland, we chit-chat for a few seconds he says what kinda car is it? I said its a Volkswagon. He looks at me. We laugh.

The Lamborghini woman just didn't want her angular model upstaged by your beautiful curvaceous 930.

I heard some complimentary comments from some teen boys walking by in a small beach town in fla panhandle. We were in stop n go traffic creeping along, my cluch leg getting tired. I was following my nephew in his Caymen GTS. I was feeling a bit jellous of their AC and PDK.
The boys walked by the GTS then came to my 911 SC and said they would take the SC over the GTS any day.
I was very surprised and pleased and glad the the windows were up on the GTS with tunes playing, so only I heard the comments. Apparently some young folks still appreciate the classics

Cheers Richard

This. OP post comes off as slightly douchy. I would have commented on the weather or his truck...or just said "Hi!"

If you had started off talking about his vehicle first instead of yours it might have gone differently.

While on a road trip this past Jan. We pulled into a rest area. Just as I parked a group of boy scouts came around the corner of the building. One scout shouts, "O My God, how awesome ". He wanted to take pictures, no problem I said, I took pictures of him standing by the car with the door open as if he was the driver. I think it made his day.

I get a lot of different comments, from "Nazi car", "how fast does it go", "they sure know how to design a car", "do you have any Grey Poupon" etc.

My favorite response is people who have to gun their motor and try to race. I've counted three people so far who have run off the road, over a curb, into a bush, or onto the traffic median. I love those.
