No amount of training can fix stupid. That guy was gonna die in a stupid accident, no matter what. No one else's rights should be infringed because of that.

Understood and agree that training is technically an infringement, but I've lost count of how many knuckleheads have been walked off of my outdoor range for sweeping the line, or not securing their weapon for a target change.

I'd say that means that there should be something quick done at the range before people are allowed to use it.

Even then, you can tell some folks "do this, don't do that, etc..." and 10 mins later, they'll be doing the opposite.

Good! We need more peer pressure/ridicule to encourage them to be properly trained AND aware while handling a weapon that can be life saving or a tragic accident.

Unfortunately, in the woke world we live in, everyone wins a trophy and is worth $15 or $20/hour minimum wage.

You'd never believe who's allowed to have children without training or a license either.

Well, I got my 1st gun for my 12th birthday, but it came with rules and conditions, 1st being that I had to take and PASS a Firearms Safety course, 2nd, it wasn't a toy or to be treated as one.
I Still have that shotgun.

I also knew where my father's gun were and not to touch them. Remember, until liberals infested the education system, Gun safety was taught in schools.

Would see them parked downtown, particularly on Saturday afternoon on grocery shopping day... often with windows down and not locked.

Likewise, can't remember the last time I saw that. not in many decades and certainly not lately.
When I was in high school the first day especially and the entire first week of deer season was a major event. I would guess 30% of the boys got up at 3:00 AM to go deer hunting, and got to school right from the hunt if they did not get a deer. One year a boy's deer rifle was stolen from the window rack. After that, the principal made a school wide announcement that all rifles should be brought to he office for safe storage.

I can remember a dozen boys at a time walking down the hall with rifles, headded to the principals office. Since I had a camera case full of expensive (Hassleblad) equipment that was way too big to fit in my locker he let me use his office for my camera gear.

It looked like an armory for the first few days of deer season in his office. Some boys had the time to go home to put their rifles away, but many just brought them to school. No one blinked an eye.

Both of my sons received a Chipmunk bolt action, single shot .22 rimfire rifle for their sixth Christmas. Both killed their first "big game" animal at 12 (the minimum age in our state for such a license) with the rifles they had received as their 12th birthday presents. The older got a Model 70 Featherweight in 6.5 Swede, the younger a Ruger #1 Light Sporter in .30-'06. Both got handguns as their 21st birthday presents, the older a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt and the younger a Springfield 1911 in .45 ACP.

As an aside, the younger was given that 1911 in tribute to an incident that occurred when he was four years old. I had taken him shooting, and he was using big brother's Chipmunk and my Single Six. He begged and pleaded to shoot the 1911, so I stood behind him, bracing his elbows, with one round in the chamber and no magazine installed. He did that a couple of times and kept asking to do it again. Finally, he said "I can do it myself"... So I let him, a couple of times. The last time he inexplicably pulled it closer (he told me later "so I could see better") and touched it off before I could stop him. The slide smacked him right in the eyebrow, and he started bleeding like a stuck pig. Rather than crying like a four year old, all he said was "do we have to tell mommy?".

Well, we got him patched up, none the worse for wear. And he got that gun for his 21st birthday. I bet he hangs onto it...

Anyway, gun safety is exposure, attitude, discipline, and training. It begins at home. When they are little. And, like many things in our lives, is our responsibility. Not our government's. Too many are abnegating too many of their responsibilities to our government. I don't care if they abandon them, just don't expect me to relinquish mine, along with the rights that go hand in hand with them, because others are too lazy, irresponsible, and stupid to mind theirs.

Recently a Tejas citizen was hoofing it to the store. A douche coming the other way lifted his shirt showing a spoon at his waist. The citizen pulled his and shot him in the face. POPO didn't even ask if he had a permit.

Douche is in hospital, uglier than he was. NHI, No Human Involved

Why would he need a permit and why would the police care? He committed aggravated assault, if not attempted murder. No permit needed for that. Though I'll make the wild guess there's a little more to this story.

Just an observation. It was reported on Fox a couple of days ago.

Nobody even looks at me sideways anymore when I carry.
