I haven't posted to this thread, partly because I've recommended Peter so frequently in the past, and partly because I've always had such a good experience doing business with him.
So I just sent Peter an email with a link to this thread. If he gets a chance to read it, he can give his side of the story. Now, on the other hand, I also like Souk (although I haven't met him face to face). He's got a long history here on Pelican. He has always been a very straight shooter, and it would be an understatement to call him an enthusiast. And he's also from the part of the country I grew up in. So for better or worse, I'm inclined to trust what he says. But since I do often recommend Rennspeed parts, let me try to see if I understand what happened here. The basics seem pretty simple. Souk ordered a bumper, and it was broken when it arrived. Somebody is responsible for it breaking, and we'd probably all agree that whoever broke it should pay for fixing it. For my own part, I'm only confused by a couple of things, which I'm sure both Souk (and/or Peter) can clear up. First off, how did an intermediary get involved in the purchase? Is this a retailer that handles Rennspeed parts, or is it the person putting the parts on Souk's car? It doesn't seem that it's either of those things, but I can't figure out why Souk would have someone buy the part on his behalf. It complicates things, since this intermediary would probably be the one who would have to file a claim with the shipper. But who is he? Also, was the part damaged in shipping, or did it appear to have been shipped already broken? From what Souk wrote, it sounds like it was damaged in shipping, but that Souk thinks the packaging for the part was the problem. Did the shipper make the claim that the part wasn't adequately packed, or is it based on the intermediary's observation? Did the shipper accept it and insure it, knowing how it was packed? Has any kind of a claim been filed with the shipper? Based on the tone of the Souk's posts (and the title he chose to give the thread), my guess would be that things got hot and heavy pretty quickly in the immediate aftermath of the damaged part showing up at Souk's intermediary's place. My guess would be that once everybody's had a chance to cool down, this can be resolved pretty easily. (But that's only a guess, and I'm only a moderator.) I know you feel you've said your piece and are done with this whole transaction, Souk, but I'd appreciate it if you fill in some of the blank spots -- because I think it can probably be resolved. I don't know if Peter will post here. But if he does, maybe we can get all the facts into the light and see why the part broke, and what can be done about it now that it's in Souk's garage and waiting to go on his rightfully famous 'backdated bastard.'

I sent you an e-mail addressing your questions, and have given you permission to copy Peter on any correspondences between you and I. I am now in a mode to protect the innocent, and if Peter steps out of line on that too, it will get messy. What needs to be said has been said. Venders have come on here and tried to defend themselves before and it never worked in their favor. This thread served to alert the members that there is a potential for problems when dealing with a vender. I suppose any vender, but it's how the vender treats US, the parts buying community, that will determine how long he stays in buisiness. So please delete this thread or you can say good buy to Souk on this BBS. (Yeah, like that's got strokes... :^D ... ![]() |

I ship fragile items via FEDEX Ground. I learned the only way to ship is to package to withstand a nuclear blast. Insurance is worthless. As I recall, in the event of a claim, it is the sender who files the claim. After all, if there's a payout, the sender gets the check. The few times I had trouble, I promptly made things right with the customer, and then went after FEDUP. That was before I started using double-wall boxes.
I see Ebay sellers trying to pass the buck when they tell customers to contact the shipper if there's shipping damage. Well, pack well and there won't be any damage. Packing well takes more material and takes a lot more time, but I feel it's the only way to do business. Just my opinion, Jürgen |

I am interested in the observation that the tail was cracked, and not installed, and the crack continued to propagate just sitting on the garage floor. If that part came from the same MFG, then I wonder if the damage occurred in shipping at all. Souk says the packaging was undamaged. If these things are cast in such a way that they crack during curing, then the MFG needs to step forward. Not making any judgements, but just looking for meaning in the information we have.
I'll tell you one thing, if I were involved in this dispute, I would INSTANTLY provide Souk with the inexpensive materials he is requesting in order to make repairs. And finally, I sure hope either a Moderator moves this thread, or Souk changes his mind. We cannot afford to lose maniacs like him here. He's a big part of our, ummmmm, diversity.

Now i'm the one confused. It starts out about a bumper but there's a pic of someone elses duck tail showing where the crack is. Then there is referrence to the bumper again as a previous purchase. Then Jack talks about a bumper. When I posted about painting, I was referring to a duck tail. What is it?

I'll pile on a little bit here. I bought some used parts from Rennspeed for my 3.2-install-into-early-car project (flywheel, dme relay, fuel pump and coil). The coil turned out to have an extremely weird problem that caused my wrench 4 extra hours of labor ($$). Peter was very prompt in corresponding with me during the initial transaction. But, when I e-mailed him several times after, wanting to discuss; not even the courtesy of a reply. I just forgot about it at that point. Thanks for reminding me Souk

First i'll admit I didn't take any measurements of the crack in the tail. But, what seemed like approx. a 3 in. crack/split when first noticed, has now grown to more like 5 in. I know i'm not imagining this.
I really don't know why it's gotten worse since the tail has not been handled much at all. I simply picked it up at a group get-together and brought it home in the very roomy, seats folded down, rear hatch of my Laser with a heavy blanket under it. Put it atop the 911 on the blanket 'til I got around to checking it out to see how i'd have to mount it. That's when I noticed the split and noticed that there's no mat within the split area. Just resin. Wasn't a big deal since i'd like to reinforce a few areas on it. Those areas being the lid part (the part underneath the Carrera script) since it has some flex to it, and the strip that runs under the lid itself. But the crack has since grown and my limited experience tells me it's because there's no mat in that area or it's a curing issue? Dunno for sure about the curing because I don't know if this was an in-stock item or one recently built. Whatever the case may be, i'm not crestfallen over it. BTW, that's not sarcasm which would make light of Souk's unrest, I just like that word.......... ![]() Reason I originally posted the issues with my lid was to confirm my lid (which was part of the same shipment) was also apparently damaged in shipping. Otherwise, I wouldn't have said anything.

I'll move this thread off-topic (since it basically is), but I'm not going to delete it.
Please understand that the board is not a tool one uses to beat people into submission with. If you post something, take responsibility for it. No offense, Souk, but once you submit a post to the board, there it stays, until it becomes detrimental (usually in a legal way) to the community or Pelican Parts. There is a reason there is no Delete button on the threads one starts. Once you submit it, it becomes the property of the community (and PP).
