Need iPod advice.

There has been discussion about earlier iPods having very east navigation with a wheel instead of buttons. This is the new iPod. Does this look like a "user-friendly" face?

Kinda like the Apple one-button mouse. As they explained from the beginning: you can't push the 'wrong button.'

The tactile feedback ("click") on the menu, play/pause, and fwd and reverse buttons is a sorely needed change from the "touch" buttons on the previous version. Plus, the positioning is much more ergonomic than the previous version. Radially-positioned buttons are the ideal interface (how come pie menus have never caught on?).

I am considerng an iPod - the big one. If I burn in all my albums, will they still be in "album" format? Like will the running order and stuff all be the same? I have a different mp3 player and the order gets all jungled up when I put them on the device.

Also, do I need to burn all my CDs to my PC, or can I got straight to the iPod through the PC?

Albums will stay albums and the songs will stay in order. The metadata for each song includes the album and the track number, so things stay organized. So you can tell the iPod to play Dark Side Of The Moon and the tracks are played in the right order.

Normally, you rip CDs into the iTunes app on the PC. Then the iPod syncs with iTunes. (There are 3rd pty apps that let you move files manually to/from the iPod, but I don't have any experience with them).

No, it doesn't have a recording function.

iPod does record (3rd gen). There are a couple of mics out there, but it is 16 bit 44.1khz (mono I think). It would be nice if it could be higher sampling but I wouldn't hold my breath.

There a cool doo-hickey I will buy soon that lets you USB dump camera photos to an Ipod as well, so when you fill your CF cards, you have an infinite dump ground (like when I filled the *&*(& camera at rennsport reunion!)

couple of yearsago I bought an Archos 20gb Jukebox so as to not have to lug my laptop around, I can store data, photos, videos etc. I found out that it can also rip live music, I know nothing about this stuff but it gos up to 160kbits/sec.
