Howard,

According to the news and LA Times, more than a dozen people were out combing the hillside and street after the crash - just looking for parts!

The Sherrif Sgt. investigating the accident took the mirror! He is quoting saying he thinks "...it is worth about $5000, so he is holding on to it" in the LA Times this morning (the crash made page one).

Mike, this thing has legs!! Lots of bids. I posted this at Ferrarichat, hope you can make it:

This piece of junk is actually getting bids To continue the madness:

Due to overwhelming demand, a public viewing of the item will be held the Starbuck's counter in Albertsons Market in Westlake Village from 10 to 11am this Saturday.

At 11, a caravan will depart and proceed via Westlake Blvd/Decker Canyon Road to PCH. We will stop for a moment of silence, reflection, wreath laying, bench racing, etc. by the famed telephone pole. From there, we go to Neptune's Net, 42505 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, CA 90265 for a no host luncheon.

All bidders and other interested parties are welcome to attend.

Any chance we can arrange for perhaps a guest speaker? Or maybe the female passenger who blew the .09 ? She could give us a first hand view of how to blow a .09.

If the Enzo didn't kill me, a lifestyle like that sure as hell would.

I've seen one of those red ones parked out in front of a club in Hollywood. Not sure if it was the one that crashed or the one in the picture, but how many of them can there be that are actually driven to go out drinking at night??

Just saw this on MSNBC.
"...my dad's a tv repair man and has a great set of tools."

Updated: 2:29 p.m. ET Feb. 22, 2006
MALIBU, Calif. - Authorities are investigating the circumstances behind a spectacular crash on Pacific Coast Highway that destroyed a rare Ferrari Enzo estimated to be worth more than $1 million.

The red Ferrari was going at least 100 mph when the driver lost control and struck a power pole, investigators said. The car — one of only 400 made — shattered, with its engine coming to rest on the highway and its wreckage scattered.

Sheriff’s investigators identified the owner as Stefan Ericksson, 44, of Bel Air, who escaped the wreck with only a cut lip.
Authorities said Ericksson told them he was a passenger and the driver was a German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich, who he said ran into the nearby hills. A three-hour search failed to turn up anyone, and officials said they were skeptical of the account. Only the driver’s side air bag deployed, Brooks said.

“He destroyed one of the finest cars on earth, maybe the finest,” said Ferrari owner Chris Banning, a Beverly Hills writer who is finishing a book on the cult of sports car racing along winding Mulholland Drive.

“It’s like taking a Van Gogh painting and burning it.”

I am amazed that no other vehicles were involved in this crash...would think PCH would have allot of commuter traffic that time of AM... a V-12 motor flying towards you would be something scary!
Glad nobody got hurt... these guys should have rented Big Willow for a test of driver skill and machine.... such a waste, man. Hope the LASO and City of Malibu throws the book at him!
Great idea about the MADD auction and run... we drove up to Paradise Cove last Sunday and it was great Targa weather!

Do the airbags in an Enzo deploy only if there's someone in the seat?

RE: crash parts 4 sale

I just read an article in the AL Times about a violin found on the freeway in 1967 and kept by a retired school teacher. Turns out it was a Stradivarius. It's along story, but the moral was, what you find isn't necessarily yours.

Now, my point is this: If this was a Porsche part you have for sale, I wouldn't be surprised if you got a call from the ins co that was prompted by PCNA. Or a call from PCNA lawyers themselves.

The hose may be nickel-dime, but that mirror is not. The officer will find his ass in a sling sooner or later; we just won't hear about it.

Howard, I've never seen anything you have said, or anything said about you that indicated you were short of being a great guy with a penchant for a little fun. Curious type as well, it seems.

However, I think this is a little on the poor form side, even if it is a trifle funny. If it were me, I'd pull that listing and let this pass.

But, that's "if it were me." YMMY

RE: the wreck. Well the Ferrari guys lost most, if not all my respect. If I were this Corey dude, I'd be all over those jerks with a libel claim.

I don't know, this whole episode stinks. I came over here to find some comments about Tony Stewart and ended up reading here. AFAIC, the pelican response has been a lot more adult than other sites. Kudos.

It's sad to see a car like this destroyed, but it is just a car. No one cares (except the owner) when a guy making $100K a year destroys his $50K corvette (and I bet it happens in higher percentages than Ferrari's or CGT's get wrecked). I bet this guy doesn't care (much) that he destroyed his $1M Ferrari. Why should he? It's his and he can afford it.

I'd hate to wreck my 930 doing something stupid, but I willingly take that risk by driving a fast car fast.

Another point that doesn't seem to be mentioned is that he is a professional race car driver. Maybe not a great one, be he is one none the less. I doubt he was doing something that normally would have been more than he or the car could handle, just not something with alcohol or whatever in his blood.

I agree somewhat... you buy any (sports) car, you have the right to crash it or do whatever with it (of course)... but if your actions grossly endanger people, you risk lives other than your own... he's one lucky sob to have walked away. It's just that a 1.2M car isn't destroyed everyday-- less than 400 worldwide makes it allot more rare than a C6 or whatever...

Is this the same guy? Curious.
