One question....

Just asking.....

Why does it have to be hidden? What was wrong with having to wear it on the outside?

*not looking at the libertarian aspect which I understand completely, just looking at the practical aspect...thank you :)

Not sure if this was intended, but a concealed carry puts a fear of the unknown into criminals. They never know when a "mark" is a bad bet or a good bet.

Most state laws require the firearm to be hidden, only a few have unrestricted open carry. In fact, if you are carrying, and flash your concealed weapon by opening your coat in a specific set of circumstances, you can be charged with brandishing.

Wow, I think I've heard better arguments than slakjaws from first graders. First of all, the majority of Nebraskans do support CCW, and have tried to get the law passed for 15 years, except that the liberals in the State Senate kept defeating the bill.

Secondly, I really like slakjaw being worried about nuts carrying firearms, then he talks about carrying a Leatherman and "nobody messes with him". Isn't this the same mentality that you're using to justify why other people shouldn't have weapons? Because they think the same thing you do?

I've got news - the nuts are already carrying weapons, and I truly believe the CCW law will make Nebraska a safer place.

Of course, despite the new law, it's still illegal to carry a concealed weapon within the Omaha city limits. Looks like slakjaw should move up here and be safer.

If I was a gambling man, I'd bet that Omaha has a significantly higher violent crime rate than the remainder of the state, which by logic says that's where you need your weapon with you most often.

I can't believe so many of you have been baited by slakcock's childish trolling.

s_wilwerding 03-30-2006 07:24 PM

You going to bring your Leatherman?

And no, I don't think he raises good points. I can see how people legitimately believe that things can escalate when more people have guns - that is a decent argument, but it is not backed up by statistical data. But to believe that CCW laws turn people into criminals, I'm sorry, that is not reasonable, and this is essentially what slakjaw is saying.

Also, the fact that he posted that last comment... well, perhaps I am worried about guns being in the wrong hands.

I can't believe you've "lowered" yourself from your pedastal into posting into this thread.

You're probably right, and I agree completely with you. Hopefully, we can get the city law overturned.

He has a scary friend he keeps drawing upon (which I wish he would stop). Guy's a gun nut. Takes a gun with a sniper rifle and "jokingly" points it at people from his car, things like that. I know him. I suspect this guy can currently get a CCW legally too.

And when you approach someone like you did, usually you get the same in return. :) It's a "cause and effect" type of thing. But I assure you, he's up and up.

South Carolina isn't perfect on this issue either, the only state that is is Vermont.

The truth is, my city is way more "tough" than yours is. I've been to Omaha so many times, I've lost count. But I've never been personally threatened in my life. I've never had these kinds of issues or even close to these kinds of issues you guys fear so much.......

Do bad things happen to you guys?

Having a gun with you is no different than having a fire extinguisher with you. Mostly, you'll never need one, but when you do, there is no substitute.

Unfortunately, the comments he was responding to weren't so "polite" or "grown up."

Cause and effect, buddy....cause and effect.....

That behavior wouldn't fly around here, in fact that's behavior that can result in the death of the guy threatening others with a firearm.

Probably not, his behavior is likely unlawful. A charge of brandishing can apply to rifles or shotguns as well.

geez, I try and obsess over a motorcycle or two and this breaks out. Maybe everybody needs a drink. Or four. Please tone down the rhetoric just a skosh...

lendaddy 03-30-2006 07:53 PM

Just finished a bottle of a local (Contessa) Pinot, mmmm fantastico:) Now I'm gonna load up the Kimber 45 and roam the city streets looking for innocents.
