Gangs of New York had some pretty tough scenes. The Butcher was an awesome character.

goodfellas and casino were good. the pool hall scene w/ segal is nice too.
one of the jackie chan films had a great fight on the roof of a high rise. he fought a tall skinny guy and a stocky guy. great sequence. i remember a foreign film where some guys start beating a communist. they hung him by his feet, and then put a big clear bag over him and started using that as a punching/kicking bag. then the camera panned on his bloody face inside the bag, then panned a little lower and you could see the bag filling up w/ blood while you still heard the punching and kicking going on.... ...now i'm craving a jelly donut

Oooh! I just remember another one. In Donnie Brasco, where Johnny Depp had the tape recorded in his boot and they went into the Japanese restaurant and we told to remove their shoes. They beat the living piss out of that guy. His screams still haunt me.

Sin City, anyone? Pretty gruesome! Thank god for some of the cartoon like effects: I almost couldn't watch some of it!

How about Collateral? I normally don't like Tom Cruise, but he was a badass in that movie. Specifically, in the club when he's fighting (I think) 3 dudes and stabs the one guy with his knife, elbows another in the kidney, breaks his neck and then gives him a nice throat stomp to seal the deal. Not quite as bloody and gory as the scenes you guys are talking about, but very, very efficent. How about Blood Sport? That had some good fight scenes.

Bloodsport II was better, and more realistic.
You can also rent "The Quest" if you want to see pretty decent choreographed scenes. rjp

Here's something that's a little bit oddball... In the late 90's John Cusack, who is a kickboxing buff, did a movie called Grosse Pointe Blank one of my all time favorite comedy's. There is a fight scene between Cusack and Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. Great fight scene, and Benny is killed with an inkpen. Classic stuff!
