Limbaugh cleared

I'm curious...the lefties here crowed like crazy when Rush was busted, yet seem silent now that charges have been dropped. Howcome?

MIAMI (Reuters) - Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh has been cleared of wrongdoing following his detention at a Florida airport last month, when agents found a bottle of Viagra in his luggage that was not prescribed in his name, authorities said on Wednesday.

My feelings have always been that he should not have been either searched nor charged. But, the fact that he is now divorced, yet again, and was returning from a country well known for it's resort brothels, with a load of Viagra in his possession is really, really funny.

Under Florida law, certain prescription drugs, including Pfizer's erectile dysfunction remedy Viagra, must bear the name of the person carrying them. Violation is a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and 60 days in jail.

But the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office said Limbaugh's psychiatrist had agreed to have his name placed on the Viagra bottle, rather than that of his patient, "in an effort to avoid potentially embarrassing publicity."

It was still a violation of the law. They gave him a break.

You decide if he deserved it.

Different people are treated differently. Leroy or Abdul would currently be cooling their heels in the hoosegow.

Some Conservative huh? Didn't a Pelican member post up bragging pics of the hooker he was banging from the same country?

Rush is a real church goer, a man of moral uprightness. Is he supposed to be the frontman for the conservatives of this country?

He doesn't seem conservative to me. He seems like he is morally bankrupt and throwing out a smoke screen like most conservatives I know. Trust me I know them. I guess if I had to label myself I would be a conservative due to my religious convictions and the moral life I live.

Yet I would be attacked as a libel lefty with no god.

Limbough is a discrage to the party he affiliates himself with.

There's an old saying in politics.

Sooner or later, everyone knows everything.

He was trying to avoid the publicity / embarassment of having a scrip for Viagra..... while clearing customs in a private jet in Palm Beach, after a stay in the Caribbean.

Has been my experience that ICE has been tougher on private jets lately. At a minimum, luggage searches, and having both parents of minor children onboard.

Long overdue.

A sherrif tried to arrest my then girlfriend because she had a bottle of prescription grade potassium in her car. It fell out of a box she had in the car full of her grandfathers stuff that she was taking home to throw out. He grandfather had died a few days earlier. We were at a roller skating rink that night and the management did not like the way we looked. (It was a red neck rink and we were dressed too "clubby".) So he called the Sherrif and we were escorted out because we looked different.

That is when the car was searched and she was almost arrested. Thank god it was potassium and not a pain killer.

I'm glad to see that ICE is protectiing us from terrorists by going through passengers (anybody) prescriptions and making sure that the name on the bottle matches the owner of the suitcase. Rush, or Al Franken, it doesn't matter, our Federal Government protecting us! BTW, where exactly in the constitution does it say I need a prescription from a doctor for anything, or that its any of the governments god damn business what I put in my body?

Flying back from the Bahamas in my friends Private plane we have to clear that exact customs office that Rush was in.

I had grown a beard while there and looked, well, like a bad person. Customs took one look at me and rifled through all my bags. I was going to bring a few Cubans back to give to some friends who like Cigars and decided not too as it might mess my friend up since we were in his plane. Glad I didn't in hindsight.

My congratulations to Limbaugh, for having enough clout to get charges dropped somehow.

Technically, the plane was subject to seizure because of the 'contraband' found aboard.

I suspect the charges were dropped because it was felt that the reason given for the subterfuge (to avoid any publicity from Rush having Viagra) had been blown so wide open that the punishment fit the crime even without being charged.

Apparently it is not that complicated. In Florida a doctor can write a prescription for a patient in the doctors name.

Have cleared customs at that office many times, as I am sure Singpilot has as well. They are one of the more difficult places and always require everything be taken off of the jet, where many places will do an inspection in the plane.

Lets face it, when a $40 million jet rolls up with some VIP on board, the chances of them smuggling something in the country are pretty small. In 36 years of flying stuff like this not one passenger of mine has had a problem in this area.

If they need something illegal they have the bux to pay someone else to do their dirty work IMHO...

Although in most circumstances, someone on parole couldn't leave the country, and *might* get busted for having someone else's boner pills, this was not a good reason to toss old Rush in jail.

There'll be plenty more opportunities if he hasn't kicked the Hillbilly Heroin habit.

I don't pay much attention to Limbaugh but I recall the controversy was over his addiction to narcotics, not over a bottle of Viagra.

He was charged with using multiple doctors (doctor-shopping) to get prescriptions for thousands of narcotic pills. He copped a plea, which was contingent on no further violations of prescription drug laws. The Viagra thing might have been a violation, but apparently Rush's doc bailed him out (figuratively speaking).

Since the essential facts - that Rush, who publicly calls for no mercy toward drug abusers and addicts, was himself an abuser and addict but wasn't above copping some judicial mercy for number one - aren't in dispute, why should there be any change of view?

Some background, lifted from news reports:

On the narcotics charges:

After a three-year investigation into “doctor shopping” for prescription painkillers, Rush Limbaugh was formally charged last week with illegally purchasing thousands of narcotics.

Limbaugh surrendered to local authorities in Palm Beach County (FL) last Friday after reaching a deal that arranged for the charge to be dismissed in 18 months upon the completion of a diversionary program. After being booked on a sole charge, Limbaugh was photographed, fingerprinted and posted $3,000 bail.

Limbaugh, a strong proponent for harsh treatment of non-violent drug offenders, received drug treatment and avoided jail time as part of his agreement. In 2003, Limbaugh publicly admitted he was addicted to prescription pain killers. He blamed his addiction on pain associated with back surgery. However, Limbaugh has been less than sympathetic to others suffering from pain and addiction, publicly scoffing at the notion of offering compassion and access to treatment for non-violent drug offenders.

On the Viagra thing:

Under last month's deal with prosecutors, authorities will dismiss a "doctor shopping" charge if Limbaugh doesn't get arrested for 18 months, among other terms.

Prosecutors had said he illegally deceived multiple doctors to get overlapping painkiller prescriptions.

Limbaugh denied the charges but admitted he was addicted to painkillers.

This latest case may be dismissed if prosecutors can confirm with Limbaugh's doctor that the prescription was written for Limbaugh, said Kendall Coffey, a former U.S. attorney in Florida.

His hearing loss was probably a result of his drug abuse. It is a known side effect of the painkillers he was abusing.

He has friends in high places. Thats a given. The amount of indirect advertising he does for his political views affords him those luxuries.

I find the situation more amusing than anything else. In comparison to his act, he will die deaf and impotent.
