Jeff ,
Yes thats me. I love that era. Pete Brock was one hell of a guy. Pete was the designer out of the Ford Cobra Daytona Coupe Shelby Group. Datsun Racing BRE confused most people, not myself.Names Like Trevor Harris,John Morton,Mac Tilton were all Giants without the ICON Scenario . I remember 1989 Palm spirings Vintage Races Lynn Park is close friends with Carroll Shelby he has many Original Cobras.etc is a Gentleman Vintage Racer and one special individual person. Looking at the old pictures gets me interested in getting a 510 for vintage races. Sincerely, HPV ENRIQUE'S Mexican Restaurant Sonora Cuisine La CARRERA CANTINA EST 1959 |

BRE and Pete Brock: He started branching out with a line of suspension parts called, Ta-Da !!!, Mulholland. They were indeed tried and tested by several of the CRE group on the Capris, Mazdas , 510s, and 240 Z before being produced for the public. Along came BRE springs , bigger sway bars, so our cars were really getting fast up there.
If i can find a scanner, I have pics of the group at a Santa Barbara slalom . Each taking the same corner with their cars

Brock opened up Interpart. It was on Center Street in El Segundo. Several of the folks who worked there would also frequent Mulholland. Rich (pictured in a few of the posts so far) ended up being a draftsman for Mac Tilton for many projects. Center street also became the home of Electramotive, which later became Nissan Performance Technology (builders of those killer GTP cars).
Park can be seen most any Saturday morning in Montrose at Starbucks, where several other veterans of Mulholland drop in. Many stories have been told there that would fit in here. One involved Mc Laughlin (darn, that's a book in itself), my friend's sister's stolen Mini Cooper, and a police chase that ended with the Mini being driven off the second floor of a parking structure in Hollywood. The Santa Barbara City College Sports Car Club monthly events usually ended with rather "spirited" caravans on the way home. It was a good excuse to take Mulholland Highway on our way back to the Valley, usually ending at Denny's on Coldwater. Mr Clemens (Coffee shop later became Twain's) owned that Restaurant, and to this day I wonder how he ever put up with all of us when we'd land on him in the middle of the night.

I remember when Keith started dating one of the pretty blond waitresses there.
They broke up and Keith was feeling pretty ornery about it. He would go up Coldwater (south of the intersection where Denny's was located) and wait for the light to change on Ventura Blvd. We would hear the squealing of a tire burnout and he would sail by the restaurant around 100 mph with all the doors and windows rattling in the place !! He did it more than once too !! Jeez- we were all so lucky no one ran thru the stop light going the cross direction

Center Street in El Segundo was where I took my Fiesta. Don't laugh: they had some crossflow 1600s putting out 230-250 hp. Damn if I can remember the name of the shop after all these years, but they were right up the street from Electromotive. I first learned of and fell in love with Lotus Cortinas and Elans at the same shop. Would spend whole Saturdays there as a kid, just hanging out.
The only name I remember from that shop is Tom Manship who I believe owned it. EDIT: I just now remember the shop's name: AVO.

Yes, I think Carl built my engine. When I first picked it up, I almost melted my tires west down El Segundo. I'd never driven with Webers and a .410 lift cam before. Then I went along that boulevard just west of El Segundo that runs beside LAX at something like 90-100 mph. The car kicked ass for what it was.

Mr Clemens at Twains was actually a cool guy. He used to ask "where is your pillow" with a smile when we strolled in at 300am. Someone I know (unnamed and was not me) actually managed to compile a complete dinner service set for 6 from Twains. Spoon by spoon, fork by fork, plate by plate, cup by cub over a 2 year period. I think he may still have them boxed up in his garage. Last edited by Jeff Hail; 01-31-2007 at 11:29 AM.. |
