I haven't been checking in on this board for a few weeks. Ooops. Looks like a whole bunch of fun has taken place.
Thanks for posting the Bobby Carradine interview, Chris. That was a fun read. Too bad I didn't check this thread before New Year's Day. It would have been nice to hit the roads with you guys. Maybe next time. Guess I 'll just have to have a solo run down Mulholland tonight, man I love working in Burbank and living in West LA. Gives you the chance to take Mulllholland everyday. -Jason |

Chris,
I think this is great you posting the interviews. I am sure there are a few who haven't read the book and this provides a glimpse and preview to the whole experience for those interested. Keep them coming!

I have never seen pigs in the area. Deer, Racoons,Skunk, Possum, Rabbits, Squirell, Coyote, Bobcat and Hawks on east Mulholland yes. Then again this is Los Angeles so anything is possible. The Topanga side has big cats (Mountain Lions) that have been news worthy the last few years.

Exactly what I was going to say. Gotta add the Mountain lion and two cubs many years ago.

Maybe he went to the Bondaran School too....
![]() As for being a member of ACR it's unfortunate I never got a chance to meet Bobby, being a member of ACR and all. Not his fault, Bad management. And for those wondering who was the fastest on the hill....as most of us were driving our mothers grocery getters scraping the door handles around every corner. In my opinion, John Hall was absolutely the fastest guy up there. Other than his two Camaro's that had small block V8's and the Porsche with it's flat boxer six cylinder his cars were all 4 cylinders and the cars everybody were chasing were the two Corvettes, one small block and the other the infamous Big block 427 with those huge Goodyear's that stuck like glue and the teeth rattling loud side pipes. And of course that silver chop top Carrera with no seatbelts! ![]() |

For the sake of accuracy, let me clarify. Anyone who is familiar with the racing world would automatically know that Bondaran is a typo for Bondurant. ![]() John Hall and Dave Gainey created ACR, I have verified this with both of them recently at a 50 year birthday party. Dave says that Bobby wasn't a founding member because he really wasn't even an ACR member. John disputes that he wasn't a member. As far as management, there wasn't any. Of the regulars, John was definitely the fastest with his "put together" psudo-racecars. But obviously this was only during the time that he was up there. There were other "fastest" drivers that were regulars before John's time and perhaps after. Johnny Mul (as I refer to him by) and myself, spent many days together helping each other set up our cars. They were some of the best days of my life. To be the fastest on Mulholland, it didn't just take a fast car because there were lots of super fast cars with poor drivers up there. It also didn't take the best driver because the best driver may not have the fastest car or the the balls to really take it to the limit. To be the fastest on the hill, it requires three prerequisites, a high performance car set up for Mul, being an excellent driver who knows the road backwards, forwards, and upsidedown, and a devil-may-care attitude about living. There were only a select few who met these requirements. Last edited by Banning; 01-04-2008 at 07:55 AM.. |

That was great!
That was not Virginia City! I've been there many times. Looks more like Malibu to me ![]() Kevin: How come your Corvair doesn't have a telescoping steering wheel?

Not Incline Village either. The town was Old Tucson. I know they also did shoot at both the Veluzat Ranch and William Hart Park up by me in Newhall. Also a small Mulholland connection at Bronson Canyon. But they did have some priceless locations. And since you will ski anywhere Dave might have a look. http://ponderosascenery.homestead.com/locales.html Scary I think the entire cast is dead except for Pernell Roberts. Yeah Derek it's weird. Hop Sing...Hop Sing....

Been glitchy for the past half hour.

Hmmm. I did a little Mul run just around the same time, today. Well, at least the Laurel to Coldwater portion. But with wife and kids (motion sick and asleep, respectively) in the car, it was probably a bit more sedate than Radu's trip.
