Here is another map showing more of the Mulholland Racecourse.
For those of you that are not familiar with Mulholland Drive, the formal "Racecourse" is located in the right hand corner. Late at night from my bedroom, I used to hear Charley run the whole course from Laurel to the 405 freeway and back. His Corvette was so incredibly loud and always under full load. What an inspiration! I wish all of you could experience hearing the Vette's echoing thunder roaring thru the hilltops as only Charley could drive it. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 12-22-2007 at 08:32 PM.. |

I may have to take a stroll across Mulholland tomorrow. I am planning on reinstalling my front valance with new chin spoiler. If there is enough light, I may test it out.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year ! ! ! And here's a little "stocking stuffer" present from me to you! Click on this link and a 2 minute, truly amazing video will stream to you from Pabst-Racing.com. http://pabst-racing.com/downloads/honda.wmv Watch the video first.........but you'll probably want to watch it again after reading below! Enjoy! Tom Pabst Pabst-Racing.com ************************************************** ********* The text below accompanied the video you've just watched as I received it. ************************************************** ********* If you thought the people who set up a room full of dominoes only to have them knocked over was amazing, that is nothing compared to the video you've just seen (or will see). There are no computer graphics or digital tricks used to create this TV commercial for Honda. Everything that you see happened in real time exactly as you viewed it! The recording required 606 takes and in the first 605 of those there was something, usually of minor importance, that didn't work correctly. It was necessary for the recording team to install the set-up time after time. It took several weeks, working day and night, to finally get one flawless take! The commercial cost 6 million dollars to produce and took 3 months to finish (including the engineering design of the sequence). The duration of the video is only 2 minutes, but every time that Honda shows the commercial on British television, they make enough money to support any of us for the rest of our lives. However, this commercial is quickly becoming the most viewed video, in the history of the Internet! Honda execs think that it will pay for itself simply because of the free showings (Honda is not paying one cent for you to see it). When Honda senior execs viewed it for the first time, they immediately approved it (and it's cost) without hesitation. But.........there are only six Honda Accords built by hand in the entire world. And, to the horror of Honda engineers, the recording team disassembled two of them to get all the gadgets and parts to create this video commercial! Everything you see in the sequence which makes up this 2 minute commercial is parts from those two hand-built Honda Accords! The narrator's voice is that of Garrison Keiller. The commercial was so well received by Honda execs when they saw it, that their first comment was how amazing the computer graphics were. They almost fell out of their chairs when told that the recording was real without any digital graphics manipulation or video trickery. By the way, about the wind shield wipers on the new Honda Accords, they are sensitive to water and designed to start working as soon as they get wet. |

It's Christmas Eve and all thru the course not a creature was stiring....not even.............
Took a drive to the Banning residence today. A few minutes on the way to capture something rare. Really clear air . Today was especially clear before the northwind came in. Mulholland is something to share for all. It is our Grand Canyon right here in our own backyard. I appreciate it for what it is as a whole and not just a road. When I can take in a view like these below it is humbling. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dave, You should have seen the southern view from Chris's balcony today. I could make out the curve of the earth. Spectacular!

Hey lets break into Willows tonight and we can test it out? Maybe not? The dreaded driveway spoiler scraper. It's like a bullhorn anouncing arrival and departure. Not good. Longevity is all in the angle of attack.

Mt. Wilson is to the left or west, it is easily visible due to all the radio towers and the Mt. Wilson Observatory on the ridgetop. Thanks again Jeff for coming over and for the awesome Christmas gift. No Parking, Dusk til Dawn. |

Gentlemen,
I am a stranger to the Southern California/Los Angeles and through this thread I have come to know the history and participation of individuals over the past forty years. There are so many great and interestings comments, stories, etc. regarding the racing events including Riverside, etc. Gives added meaning and understanding which I missed out during my years in the military. I consider myself as a Native California (66 years) displaced to another state. This thread gives great insight and understanding making the LA area development one of great interest, very active people, traveling roads much the same as I did in Northern California. I have bought parts from TRE which this thread makes more of a personal thing. Gene Asbury even took me for a very "fast ride" over Mul. Keep up the good "works" and hope this tread makes its way into another book or two. Still have to get Mr Bannings first book. Thanks again for sharing the stories, comments, etc. Very enjoyable. Calling all Mulholland racers, new and old! Don't forget to come join us for New Years morning. Ironically we won't be running the Mul, but we will be on some fun roads nonetheless. There will also be a couple old Mul guys I'm sure you'll recongnize. Info at SoCal New Years Cars & Coffee Tour
