Down deep below Carls Jr, Dave found a VW beetle. Before hiking down there, Radu told him to drive it uphill and pick us up.

If Radu looks excited he has a good reason, there is so much neat crapp to see over the edge.
![]() More 911 parts, here is another roof. ![]() It was another great time hiking the racecourse. I'll post the map of artifact locations soon. Last edited by Banning; 02-19-2008 at 01:35 PM.. |

Looks like that Mustang hubcap matches the other one I found on our last trip.

FYI:
Not only is the poison oak getting a little harder to spot - the leaves are more green than red, but there are stinging nettles all over the place! I'm still feeling them in my elbow, finger and back of hand. I used to be pretty immune to them, but I guess not so much anymore. Nothing serious, but they 'sting' for a couple of hours. The Emerson bottles are not worth much on the market, but nice for the window sill. The company primarily made a headache remedy.

Speaking of VWs, I wonder how this little jewel would do on the Hill. Might need some stickier tires. I don't know what the girls at the end are doing, me Deutch is no-so-good.

And this is my favorite. Watch the GT3 at the very end. This one is close to my heart because when I was about 5 years old, my Dad had an early Bus like this. We would take rides on Mulholland and he would let me steer and shift the bus while he worked the pedals. I would stand up in between the seats, that long shifter came up to meet me just perfectly. Then I would steer it like a bus ..... errr. .... .. it was a bus.

Chris said "Car builder" was autobauer and that's probably correct or close enough. Good call Chris. ![]() Bauer in German can mean several things. 1. a builder or constructor, one who builds..in any case. 2. a wealthy peasant, rustic like, clown like, etc.. 3. a cage for birds, like an aviary. |

So glad I asked. I liked Car-Builder better then peasant-clown who builds birdcages.

Thanks Jeremy for posting those videos.
That Ghia has got to be one of the coolest ones on the planet. Not only does it have great looks for a KG, it really hauls butt. The Bus is most impressive. When it arrives at the track, I bet some guys laugh real hard. But they don't laugh for long, as their jaws are dragging on the ground when they see it perform. The Bus reminds me of a VW Transporter that I bought in Santa Monica in about 1975, I was working there as a Porsche Mechanic. The truck had no engine but had Porsche gauges, a 901 Porsche transaxle, a Porsche gas heater under the bed, coco mats, and gold paint with brown trim. It cost $1500. It had been modified for a Carrera 4 engine that had since been sold. I put an inexpensive 2.0 litre 911 engine in it, it was a close fit. After adding the oil tank and circuit board, I was on the road. It was not a good handler to say the least, talk about oversteer. The 911 engine acted like a pendulum on a long rod. Really fun in the rain. After about 6 months, I installed a 912 motor which was much better in terms of saftey. I have to admit though, it was fun to hear a 911 engine in that VW. Just so that everyone can see how steep the terrain is..
Mulholland Drive is at the top of the photo. We were about 400 down from the road in this spot. Radu is holding up a rear tray from a car that lies nearby. The underbrush is so thick that stuff hides even when it is right next to you. Amazing! ![]() Last edited by Banning; 02-23-2008 at 07:33 AM.. |
