Scanning the article and posting it here would be a copyright infringement but I can still tell you what I've learned. The track tires that were compared were: BFGoodrich g-force R1 Dry track use only 160-220 degrees F operating temp Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec Wet/dry street and track use Low heat use-DOT approved Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R Wet/dry street and track use No sizes in 15 inch wheel Falken Azensis RT-615 Wet/dry street and track use Light tread design Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 Wet/dry street and track use Heavy tread design Kumho ECSTA V710 Dry track use only DOT approved, track ready, slick design. Hoosier R6 DOT Dry track use only 160-220 F operating temperature Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Wet/dry street or track use 160-220 operating temperature, can be shaved. Nitto NT01 Dry track use Light tread design, can be shaved. Toyo Proxes R888 Wet/dry street or track use 140-220 operating temperature, can be shaved to increase traction. Pirelli P Zero Corsa Wet/dry street or track use Directional tread, can be shaved. Yokohama Advan A048 Street and track use DOT approved race tire for circuit style racing. Goodyear Racing Tires were not listed. The BFGoodrich tire has a nice slick design. So does the Kumho. The Nitto, Yokohama, and Toyo tread designs are both unique and beautiful. Here's a good source for Goodyear racing tires (they mounted a nice set on the '74 RSR my friend raced last weekend at the Historics). They're up in Castro Valley, but SoCal folks use them too. I don't know if you're after "authenticity" or if you want something DOT-approved for street use. What a car!

I'm cleaning the fuel system as I write this sentence. Photos later.
Gas tank 1st, then fuel pump, and fuel distributer/filter assembly last. Then after dumping a case+ of Brad Penn into the tank, we are ready to dry crank to bring oil into the gallerys. You know what happens after that? ![]() |

After reading most of this thread in spare moments over about a week and a half, I joined up to the forums the middle of last week. I forget how I stumbled across this website, but I came directly to page one of this thread.
After I typed a thumbs up, this-is-an-amazing-thread, and modest introduction post, I clicked "submit," but it never showed up. This was right before Chris' posted photos of the RSR's rollout. I PMed Jeff and he directed me to Wayne, who told me one has to make 10 posts in the other forums before posts show up in O/T... said it holds down on spammers. After the 10 qualifiers, I've PMed him again to ask if my original post here will show up now, or if I need to repost it. At this point, I'd rather it not show up now.... it can wait for another day... because I don't want to take any of the spotlight off your efforts at getting your RSR going again, Chris. Congratulations and kudos, and best wishes for a first-turn-of-the-key start up.

It is important to remove all laquer residue from inside the fuel tank so I came up with a unique solution.
There is still liquid left below the drain plug level. How does one get rid of the remaining stuff in the fuel tank? A half used paper towel roll is strung up first on one end. ![]() Then the other end is tied up to make a roll. ![]() The roll is carefully lowered down into the gas tank to soak up any left over contamination. ![]() The roll can be placed in the tank exactly where it will be the most effective. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 08-26-2008 at 05:53 PM.. |

Have to leave a margin of string to be able to retrieve that big tampon full of old fuel.

The motor is getting Brad Penn Racing Oil, exactly like the Kendall GT-1 Racing Oil, outrageous!
