Maybe Sunday morning? I don't drive the course aggressively at night anymore; couple of places where resident's sprinklers cross the apex. And although you can see approaching headlights, you cannot see someone parked, enjoying the view and maybe crossing Mul for a better look.

I pretty much stick to early morning runs in good weather and stay on my side of the double yellow. With this weather we have been having, the shady parts of some turns will still be damp and if cold enough, icy.

I come off in my original post a little abruptly, can see why you might be defensive, I didn't mean to. But you don't need me to tell you the sim driver is all over the road, hitting the shoulder at one point. Having driven this stretch of Mul for 30 years, sometimes too fast and sometimes in a carpool, I know for certain you really don't want to be in the dirt with 2 wheels on the drop side.

Good luck with the sim, looking forward to seeing it finished. There are many lines one can take, happy to show you mine one day in the 92 C2/5.

I would love to see that - I should also preface that I would not dirt drop in real life either I will keep you all updated as the map gets further developed.

watched a documentry the other night on the capitan, William Mullholland on amazon TV that chronicled his life and the st francis dam failure east of LA in 1928. had never heard of the event, or knew anything about WM. very interesting if you have an hour or so to kill in front of the TV.

Deer too. I was stopped with a group of cars near The Summit as the one in front had hit a deer. The front of his SUV was just crushed, leaking fluids. All of us urbanites stood around arguing over what to do for the poor deer, when it suddenly jumped up and ran away.

I have no friggen idea how to create software data for a sim, but I guess mapping is an important part. Mapping that is with a car on the course. But I'm pretty sure that can be accomplished at much slower speeds in the proper lane w/o all the histrionics. IOW, I'm pretty sure you don't have to go over the cliff in a crash to have that feature in the sim.

So therefore, you don't have to drive on both sides of the center line to get the data needed. Furthermore, more that stock, even if improved, headlights are needed. Like some rallye lights for a wider field of vision doing this at 3 am or whatever. Even in just the correct lane. Hit a mountain lion and see what happens.

The map was generated using an elevation map created by google - for most of SoCal google has it down to 4 cm resolution. We did not go out to the road to make this, although I used to commute this road from the west side to hollywood every night for a few years.

I was looking at the route between skyline and cold water. There is only two intersecting strees (on just one side of the road) and one driveway near coldwater. Not bad!

One time (last year?) I was doing an early morning weekend run along the Racecourse. As you noted, there are no driveways/houses along this stretch of road so pedestrian traffic is uncommon. But there can be cyclists/joggers/tourists, so I keep that in mind. I came around a corner (driving in spirited fashion, of course) and was surprised to see a very attractive woman (slender, short tight dress, heels) likely doing the walk of shame along the side of the road.

I guess I shoulda stopped and offered her a ride, but that woulda messed up my run.

I built the car to beat up on 289 Cobras. By the time it was finished the Cobra 427 was out. Another oh well.

Finally getting caught up with some of my projects.
I'll get up to speed (so to speak) and post some new information and make some corrections to what has been posted recently.

First I'd like to share an email sent to me from Rich Adams.

Rich did the last full edit of The Mulholland Experience which we could have printed as a Second Edition but I felt it would be better to do something entirely new and much more complete as to the Story of Mulholland Racing. This has turned out to be very time consuming.

Hi Rich,

I replaced the 66 Gallon Electric Water Heater in Summer after 2 weeks of no hot water. Jane was really inspiring me to complete that job. I had to re-plumb some of the copper pipes. Then the 2" Main waterline began to leak which I had to repair. I was able to do some of the Car work but it was limited. The White 1973 Porsche is back in the House Garage where it belongs next to the Carrera. It needs new Cam Chains and Tensioners (at least). The Carrera needs a new Rear Main Seal. During the year I was able to get the needed parts to complete the 1973 Targa which is just outside the Garage Door. I gave away many of the parts that came with the car like Front and Rear Bumpers, Wheel Spacers, Turn Signal Housings, and a Whale tail, most of it to my friend the Automotive Designer named Radu. You have his painting in your living room I believe. I introduced you two at the Ferrari Owners Club Election Brunch years ago. I still have some Porsche Parts to give away like Carrera 4S Suspension with Coil-Overs and some other stuff like a Factory Hood, etc.
