These are the Porsche Racing Research Manuals that the Porsche Factory kindly gave to me in preparation to build a Racecar for Mulholland.
It was 1975 and Porsche was wonderful, generous, and very helpful, located in the beautiful city of Stuttgart. ![]() |

At the Porsche Factory Racing Division I met Frau Baer who was the one who selected the specific Manuals from their High Security Vault located in the center of the Racewerk.
She gave me her Business Card and I have kept it with the Manuals ever since. Thank you again Frau Baer for your time and consideration. You are wonderful and you added to the great experience that I had in Stuttgart. ![]() |

The last Manual Frau Baer handed me was an original Porsche Carrera RSR Owners Manual. It doesn't get better than that.

Thank you for sharing all this stuff. I saw one of those RSR owners manuals one time. My brother's best friend had an older brother who bought one new, pretty sure he still has it. I always liked the ducktail better than the whale tail

This photo is of the Mulholland Carrera before it was Street-able.
Shown in Primer with unpolished Wheels and Rollcage, missing body pieces and glass. The Windshield was just sitting in the frame because I had to take it out for painting the following week. This was around late 1975. Photo taken on the back Patio here at Home on Mulholland. ![]() |

This photo from 1976 shows the Carrera now Painted Factory 2-stage Silver.
The Wheels are now polished by DBS Metal Polishing. Side glass not installed yet. This photo was taken 20 feet away from the previous one on the Patio but looking east towards the Racecourse. Note that Mulholland is in the backround with a specific "Roadcut". ![]() Here is the same "Roadcut" in the backround from 1959 showing my first Mulholland Racecar. A metal-bodied pedal-powered Christmas gift from my Grandfather. At that time, there were few houses and no Developments on Mulholland yet. ![]() Last edited by Banning; 05-25-2023 at 10:51 AM.. |

Chris, thank-you so much for sharing. I get chills seeing your story documented, especially the part about the factory visit with Frau Baer.
Do you have sound clips of your car?

I wish that I had some video from inside the car while driving where you could hear the sound of the Motor at redline. |

I see that they change the rear wheels before a session. There is hardly any rubber being laid down. The tires must be rocks.

Before the Carrera was put on display, the Petersen Museum did a photoshoot in their on-site Studio using a white seamless backround. These are beautiful Photographs and I thank The Petersen Museum for sharing them. Two of these Photos have already been posted on this Thread.
I requested to see the other photos that they took and they posted them on a link. Here are some of the remaining custom photos. Thank you to Jonee, Luna, and Jennifer from the Petersen. Photos are courtesy of The Petersen Automotive Museum. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Chris,
One of the attributes of the Carrera that I have always liked is its not a "show car". In fact the opposite as ridden and put away, battle scarred; Yet it is part of the Mulholland concourse and thats what makes it so unique unto itself. Yes its been touched up, engine bay has some patina, mag and aluminum parts have some oxidizing. Some dirt but it remains mostly original to the 1970's as when it was modified and completed in its second life. Its not a barn find, its better because its the living room find. Its a living automobile. I have seen many cars at the Petersen with chipped paint, scratches, touch ups and that is what makes them special. They have charactor, personality and it lets you know someone drove this car in some period or race in history. I would like to be a fly on the wall when some factory guys have seen the car thinking we did that or we should have tried this or that. The Carrera is a survivor of a period on Mulholland Drive that still shows her flavor. Great photos.

Thank you for those very nice comments about the Carrera Jeff.
The Petersen Automotive Museum publishes a very fine quality Coffee Table-like Magazine called Finish Line. I received a complimentary copy in the mail a few weeks ago and thought that it might be of interest to those reading this thread. ![]() |

The Photographer did an excellent job of covering almost all of the cars that are on exhibit at the "We Are Porsche" Event at The Petersen Automotive Museum.
