Porsche Crest Finish Line

Very nice show due to an excellent lighting set-up, Cars being spaced apart just right, and large Placards placed around Cars so you know what you are looking at.

Porsche Crest Finish Line

Beautiful Cars in every Display Hall of every kind of Porsche from decades of Production.
Famous Racecars, Customized Cars, Stock Porsches, Porsches with History, and other unique and exceptional Cars.

One of my personal favorites is the blue and gold Sunoco Porsche 917/30 (shown on the 2nd page) that was driven by Mark Donohue in the CamAm Series.
I think it's the most incredible Racecar ever constructed.

Hard to argue with a turbo Porsche.

Looks like a wonderful piece. I have to figure out how to get a copy of that issue of Finish Line since there is no way I will be able to make it to the exhibit.

I found you can request archived issues (https://www.petersen.org/finishline) so I sent an email.

I made it into the museum to see Banning's car displayed there. They did honor to it and the history. I used to Docent, so asked a few groups if they wanted a personal tour of my beloved Corvettes there, and the Porsche displays. Told car stories to a few groups for a few hours to include the fame of Chris's Porsche. I used to work with the chain of Museums as a researcher for some mag authors, with SDAM, Harrah's, Cunningham, and the Petersen guys.

Porsche Crest Racing Mulholland

A very talented Researcher, Video Creator/Editor, and Porsche Enthusiast named Geoff Farintosh from Toronto just finished his latest, very well-done Story of Racing Mulholland.

It was released this morning and incorporates information from many different sources.
Great Photos, videos, and story-lines are carefully put together to make this a great addition to our Love of Mulholland Lore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecd3wbEahYA

Thank you Geoff for your talents and efforts to produce this piece of Los Angeles history.

Excellent. I really like his videos. Especially the ones about the Midnight Club in Japan.

This is amazing!

Way back in '80- '83 my buddy and I would drive down from Marin County now and then to race around Mulholland on a Saturday night. Other times, when visiting family in the area, I'd take the family car out (VW Jetta) and blast around. I had a modified Karmann Ghia and my buddy had a '69 Mustang Fastback. Those were the days!

Just watched it. Awesome! In high school (BHS), I would hear legendary stories about Chuck Turner.

Chuck was the Die-Hard of all Die-Hard's when it came to hanging out at the Racecourse.
He was without a doubt, The Last Man Standing.

After the signs went up, "No Parking from Dusk until Dawn", The Cops just kept impounding the cars that were up there and parked, almost every night.

Chuck didn't care.
His AMC Javelin would get impounded multiple times a week and he would just go pick it up later that same night, pay the fees, and go back up to Mul as if nothing happened.
The guys at the OPG Impound Yard ended up just leaving his Car outside because they knew that he would be coming in soon to retrieve it.

He was a Mulholland Legend for refusing to cave-in the Police and refusing the unfair Restrictions placed on Mulholland Drive.
All I can say is, Bravo Chuck!
Most people that have met Chuck like him, he's a real nice fellow.

Sounds more like a privileged kid. I had to work for every dollar and I blew plenty. But paying towing fees was out of bounds for my budget. And touching my car was a no. Worked hard for that too.

This is true, the crowds that gathered on Mulholland was was from many varied backrounds. Some came from more financially strong backrounds, and some did not, just like in any groupings.
But it was the best drivers that won the race, whether in a old VW or a new Vette. Just ask John Hall.
Just because you are in a new super fast Car does not mean that you will be the fastest.
Quite the contrary.
It's driving skill and willingness to "Take it to the Limt" that will win the Race.

Just checked into the thread for the first time in months. Didn't realize the famous Banning 911 was at the Petersen. I'd love to see it in person. Is it still there?

It will be at the Petersen Automotive Museum until April 2024.

Porsche Crest Riverside

I ran across this some time back and thought many here would appreciate seeing it. Interesting that a Slot Car Track was named after Riverside International Raceway. Many of us remember that place as a wonderful and special experience. However I don't think that the Course ever crossed over itself as it is shown on the Box. Perhaps it's in a different State and not the Riverside we all know of that was in California. Any ideas?

I don't know how long this will be on YouTube but it's the whole movie.

I have this same track. The Riverside logo is accurate and 1/24 slot set were the premium tracks with the big slot cars. The 1/24 tracks usually built had commercial rental centers, and were gigantic but could be 4-8 lanes wide. Thus if you actually attempted to reproduce a track to the actual layout of Riverside, the box would be 4x bigger, and it would not fit in your livingroom to scale. Yes Riverside never crossed over. The autocross/slalom guys in SCCSCC would get pretty creative, but it wasn't demolition derby. If your track has those cars, then those alone are worth $$$$. The McLaren M1A, and Chaparral 2A (won Sebring 12 Hours), so you have either late 1965/or 1966, the date should be somewhere on the box. These gave us slot car kids the ability to drive and test, tune our cars for the big time, Professional track places. We used to go to Redondo Beach Pier, in a downstairs from the pier level place that had three tracks or out to Buena Park where the guy had two tracks and a drag strip and still open. My Father lost a 1/24 Cox Cheetah, stolen right out of his pit box there in the 1990s. Got to watch your good stuff.
