Jeff, Could you show us which corners are which? It would help to understand some of the stories if we knew what the corners look like.

Good eye !! You've caught allot of the more subtle undulations that gave/gives the road so much character. Like, even Sunday night when I went across west bound, last turn through the mini-esses. It's banked at it's exit and one can really hook it through there. But one has to know that, as it is not visible on the approach (saw one P-car takin' a line east bound). That's the real mix one had to deal with. Takin' a line where there could be oncoming yet leaving an exit (may not be pretty). We've all said the same things here. But THAT is the exact element we all took from Mulholland to the track. "To finish first one must first finish"

There has been some truly great things written here and I hope those across the country are "living vicariously" through the thread .

ps: Anybody notice that spell check says Mulholland is Malevolent??

I have this visual of MM chasing his mothers hub caps across mulholland. Yet I know exactly what he went through as my mother once said to me "how come my new car ("74 Chevy Caprice Wagon) rattles so much? To which I quickly went out and nearly flattened the tires) !!! She said, "much better now, but it corners strangely."

That is funny. How many young folks borrowed Mom and Dads car to go up to Mulholland? I did many time's in between down time with my own cars. I guess I should be asking how many of our parents cars came back from Mulholland with a "story" attached to it. Hummmmmmmm....a lot

I picture BIG American cars like Buick's, Cadillacs, Pontiac's, Custom Cruisers and Country Squire wagons.....
1) Hubcaps missing
2) Tires with rounded or cupped outside tread blocks.
3) Bent wheels
4) 3/4 of a tank of gas gone awol (really poor mileage!!!)
4) Burning smells
5) Kleenex box's crushed by feet
6) Items in trunk relocated by inertia
6) Headlamps mysteriously aimed high

on and on and on..........

If they only knew?

ABSOLUTELY! I HAD MY OWN CAR BY THE TIME I DISCOVERED MULHOLLAND. BUT BEFORE I COULD AFFORD A CAR WE LIVED ON THE PRESIDO ARMY POST IN SAN FRANCISCO. ( GREAT ROADS IF YOU'RE EVER IN S.F. DRIVE THROUGH SOME TIME). I TOO WOULD PUSH THE 4,000 LB PONTIAC OUT OF THE GARAGE COAST DOWN A STEEP HILL STOPPING THE BEAST WITHOUT THE ENGINE AND PWR STREERING OR PWR BRAKES WORKING AT THE BOTTOM BEFORE FIRING IT UP. WE'D JOY RIDE AROUND S.F. AND ROAD RACE AROUND THE PRESIDIO. -- IF ONE COULD ACTUALLY CALL FLOGGING A 62 PONTIAC CATALINA AROUND TIGHT CORNERS ROAD RACING. HA, HA. Oh my god, I haven't laughed that hard and long for as long as I can remember. I'm crying ! Can you imagine how mad we'd be if our kids did that to OUR cars ???

Mom was a good sport however. I came back from a P-car time trial at Curly Prices Speedrome outside Las Vegas, where I entered her '75 454 Kingswood Estate wagon. While I beat all of the 4 cylinder P-cars and half of the 6 cylinder P-cars (ask Carl Young) I brought the car back with 4 cracked wheels, 4 warped brakes, the tires were worn down to the lettering and the trans, engine and diff all failed shortly thereafter (R.I.Pieces). The car was eventually bought back from the next owner under the "Lemon Law" and crushed.

SSB, Would this be the same Joe V. who works with the Amick's here in NC? If so, he's still known to spill a little oil every once in a while. I did some races with him a few years back and helped build some Motec stuff for him. Great guy though, just wish he would stand up when I'm talking to him. LOL. Btw Thanx for all the great history lessons here.
Ya, ask him to stand up, then see if he remembers that BMW 320 at Laguna "we'all" put together at TurboTech in North Hollywood for the RS IMSA race?

And what happened to "Fat Dancer?"

I'm 41 years old now and grew up thousands of miles to the north. I saw the King of the Mountain movie when I was a kid, but until I read this thread (or part of it anyway) I didn't appreciate what it was all about.

I'm frankly in awe, and completely envious of the experiences some of you had growing up. I can't imagine going through that without being affacted deeply, as is obvious some of you have been.

My brother used to hang out at the 1/4 mile strip with his buddies, but I never got the chance. The eighties hit and things went all disco nd new wave, and there were very few gearhead types of my age, especially in the town where I grew up. I'm lucky I became a gearhead in fact, the odds were against me.

Will it ever be like that again?
