Just in case anyone would like to see the initial text, I have it below. --------------------------------------------------------------- This is the article that I wrote AFTER the Event in Angeles Forest. Is anyone interested? The place to assemble was at the Sports Chalet, where lots of parking made it easy to congregate. We wish to thank the La Canada Sports Chalet for allowing us to begin our day’s festivities in their parking lot. We love The Sports Chalet. Ferrari models of varied kinds showed up, from Dinos to an F40, we had the whole gambit with about 20 Ferraris. Once everyone had showed up and had a chance to talk and meet other members, we had a short drivers meeting as we always do. We then proceeded up into the forest on the long twisty uphill grade. The day was beautiful, sunny with a few white clouds, and traffic was very light. We cut over to Hidden Springs through Big Tujunga, and joined up again with Angeles Forest Hwy. Here the road sweeps around big canyons and ridges making for one heck of a good time. The Ferraris loved this road and were in their element here. There is nothing like the feeling of the power of twelve cylinders behind your back and the sweet sound of the engine at redline singing in the mountains. What a sight to see all these beautiful cars snaking around the ridges at speed. It was an incredible experience for everyone. After our blaze thru the mountains we stopped just short of the Antelope Valley Freeway. Here we had time to take some great photos and stretch our legs. After our short break, we hopped on the 14 Freeway for a short distance to Palmdale Blvd. Driving westward we drove thru Leona valley. This is a quiet farm community with beautiful hills just turning green from spring. It’s quite different from the Forest, but still a very nice place for a drive. We drove for a few miles among the rolling hills on this great backcountry road. We stopped again briefly to stretch our legs before proceeding. We split into two groups to go down the canyons to canyon country. Shane took half the cars down Bouquet Canyon while I took my group down San Francisquito Canyon. Here there are no signals, traffic congestion or housing tracts and you can really open it up. The Ferraris howling and echoing in the canyons is always a special treat. After our high spirited run down these beautiful canyons we arrived at the restaurant where there was great food waiting for us. Last edited by Banning; 04-27-2007 at 02:08 PM.. |

Chris, sorry you were not there, but I had a great time any way ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks slodave, this last weekend Jane and I celebrated our 19 year anniversary on a trip to San Luis Obisbo. We stayed at the Madonna Inn. I highly recommend staying at this place, it's great. Here is a photo of the front of the Inn. We visited Pismo Beach, the San Luis Obisbo Califorina mission, Lake Margarita, Solvang, and the old town. It would make a nice run to go from LA to Solvang for the day wouldn't it guys? ![]() Let me know if any of you would like to plan an event for the thread contributors. We could do a forest run or whatever. I have most of your email addresses so that we can coordinate. Maybe we can get some of the old racers(HaHa), to go on a run. How 'bout it George, Victor, Mark, Dave, John, and the rest, sound interesting? Victor, I will get your tape on digital and return it to you soon. Then we can post it on this thread. I have found my copies of the past as well, like the Eye on LA about "Mulholland Maniacs", and the documentary of the filming of King of the Mountain. Good stuff! I am buried in car work at the moment but will get to it soon. I have been restoring a Z28, a corvair pickup truck, and an old, rare type 34 racing VW spyder that is much like an old Porsche spyder. The spyder has a 6 point roll cage, Porsche alloys, fender flares, disc brakes, Porsche gauges, a racing trans, and a built 2180. I am painting it silver with a red interior. It should be faster than spit. It weighs nothing and has over 200 hsp. It should be excellent for Mul. |

fun roads near slo ?
Hmm.. isn't that what we are doing already this weekend with R Gruppe Oh no ! i used that name again!! Now the disparagers and flamers will be posting here too ![]() Seriously, you have to pick the day of the week and roads as the central coast is insanely busy with tourist season in full swing. Imagine thousands of wine tasters (they are driving with full capacity and concentration , right?), hundreds of cyclists (motorized and n.a. powered, and throw in the boat enthiasts towing over a lot of these roads. Be careful and choose wisely

I maintained 80 almost the whole way and made it from San Luis Obisbo to Sherman Oaks in just under 2.5 hours. The roads in the area are really empty and fun right now, until school lets out. Then, with kids on vacation as Dave said, "be careful and choose wisely". It will get packed with tourists and boaters. |

I actually preferred to drive at night to and from SLO. My best time was a little under 2.5 hrs. to Tarzana.
Chris, I have never stayed at the Madonna Inn, but have been there a few times. The mens bathroom is quite the eye catcher. Dave

I have stayed at the Madonna Inn once in Room 131 (Kona) and stopped to eat many times. My girlfriend actually pulled me into the womans restroom demanding I check it out. If you have been there you will return. If you have not made it you have to go. You just gotta go. The Bars and Steakhouse at the Inn are awesome. Kind of like pink on pink Alice in Wonderland on fruity drinks (down the rabbit hole) Everyone remembers the bathrooms. I travel up to the Central Coast about 3 times a month and love it. Life is much slower and calm then in LA. I have considered moving to that area but something keeps holding me back. Another great place to stay or eat is the Apple Farm in SLO or the Ascot Suites (not Hotel) in Morro Bay. Congrats on your 19th Chris! ________________________________________ CHP hot areas are: Zaca Station Road, Nojoqui Park/ Alisal Road, Palmer Rd where the chippies back in between the oaks. Lidar is in use.

There is a little golden chereb flying around the room holding a lit chandelier. It feels like a magic attic. Lots more unique stuff abound here. ![]() The second night was at the Austrian Suite. Wowee it's 76 feet long with two balconys, six sitting areas, two HD TVs, refrigerator, etc, etc. ![]() Each room is different and theme patterned. like a cave room, a highway room, a starlight room, and 100 more. If you like fun, you will like to stay here. |
