NO SPARK!!!

So, I'm off to a local Pelican's to borrow a coil. If that doesn't work then something is wrong with the new to me MSD unit. So, then the next step would be to put the Permatune back in and try again.

Derek, it will look like that even if all is good! At least until the toxic chemicals burn off.

The Petersen is my bet with a fiberglass life-cast of Chris in the car.

PCA had an event at the Peterson a couple weekends ago, so someone in the local Porsche world must know one of the higher ups at the museum...

Damn, I hate coming to OT to check this thread.

I feel like our little haven within Pelican has fallen into the middle of "the world is coming to an end because so-and-so is doing this and that" conservative/liberal fear mongering.

Nice Jeep Derek. I like the Dude sticker.

Everyone else. Picked up some new reading material. "Porsche 917 The undercover story". (by Gordon Wingrove. Pub 2006/07)

Highly recommended!

- knowhere will you find inside information and photos so complete on the 917 project. It explains in detail everything down to the last piece of safety wire that went into these cars and why. It starts off with the end of the 904 series and takes you inside what is not available even at the Porsche Museum (according to the book). The 917 for 30 years always had a certain guise of secrecy kept by the factory. The veil comes off in this awesome book. Much input by Hans Mezger who enabled Wingrove access to the factory archives and photos long locked away to create this. Wingrove is well known writer and was also a mechanic for JW Automotive during the battle of the titans.

I'm a big fan of the fat lady and this book tops them all. It's a "must read".

Jeff, Chris B. and I talked about a week ago and decided to take another trek into the wild, er, Mulholland. Any interest? Next week is pretty open so far for me.

Derek, does your Jeep have a winch, if so, can we borrow it (the Jeep).

Dave

Since we are OT now...

IT RUNS!!!

Looks like I have a bad MSD box. So I put the old ignition back in and she fired right up. Drove around today to seat the rings and all is well. Smooth, great power, no odd sounds, no leaks.

After a few miles I turned up the wick and blasted a few on-ramps. Sooo much more fun than the 993. Man, I love this car!

I didn't even know it was moved 'til you guys mentioned it. Since I've subscribe to this thread it's always waiting for me in the "Quick Links" tab up top and I don't know where it is in PelicanWWWland.

Derek, you are quite intelligent, quite intuitive, and quite correct. And I can't wait to get you into the passenger seat buddy, for starting this thread. LOL

Not many oil leaks for a 32 year old motor.

It took me a couple of hours to get the engine and transmission removed from the car today.

Here is a close up the exhaust. It is a one piece design with the very special muffler welded to the headers.
This saves weight and eliminates a possible exhaust leak at the flanges. They tend to bottom out sometimes
and throw a fountain of sparks behind the car when under full acceleration.

Here's the little culprit, the Bosche Mechanical Fuel Injection Pump that's clogged.
Thank's Dave B. for directing me to the right place get it cleaned.

It was easy to remove the drivetrain alone, however I require assistance lifting the motor up into the engine stand.
If anyone feels like giving me a hand, please come on over tomorrow. Beer is waiting for you, thanks. (Hint, hint).
We're anxious to get repaired and feel the beautiful rough pavement of Mulholland Drive again.
The fun ain't over yet boys.

What time does the operation start? I'll be hunting down a fuel filter for my Jeep. Seems to be leaking gasoline . Anyone want to help replace that too? (I'm sort of mechanically retarded.)
