He actually seems less reprehensible than any of the other candidates out there. One to watch.

Hillary and Obama SHOULD be afraid of Fred.

Obama has done a good job of bringing speaking the truth in a palatable manner. But Fred can represent the conservative view in a truthful, and plain spoken manner as well.

"Excerpt from June 28 commentary aired on ABCRadio.com.

Why, then, would the new UN Secretary General blame climate change? I think it’s pretty obvious.

Blaming the Islamic government and groups that have manipulated events in Sudan will get him nothing but enemies. Blaming global warming, however, is basically the same thing as blaming America. The reason is that congress rightfully balked at ratifying the Kyoto international climate treaties during the Clinton presidency.

There is simply no downside to blaming America, because Americans don’t punish their ideological foes. From the UN, we don’t even require sanity sometimes. And there might even be an upside to blaming us, since there are Americans who suffer from such ingrained feelings of guilt, they’ll support increased aid to both the UN and Sudan.

There is a lesson to be learned here, though. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is arguably the most powerful man in the international community today. We know he’s unwilling to blame those who actually gave the orders to commit genocide in Darfur. And apparently he’s happy to shift the blame for ongoing deaths to those living peaceful, productive lives in the West.

Now hopefully we can work toward international cooperation with regard to environmental policies that make sense. It’s not very encouraging though when the head of the world’s leading international body uses climate change as an all purpose excuse in order to avoid hard realities.

The purpose of a politician is not to use their own political thoughts and views to influence legislation, but to *represent* the people, and enact legislation that they wish to see put into place. I can think of no current politician who thinks along these lines, instead thinking "well, they elected me, so they must think that 100% of what I think and do is what they want." We need to see some politicians who vote against what they personally think is right, when the constituents want the law written differently. After all, no one can be in agreement 100% of the time.

For those who want to check out some of Fred's thoughts on a variety of issues, you should see the brief commentaries available on his website:

http://www.imwithfred.com

There's some good common sense stuff there. And, unfortunately for America today, common sense doesn't seem to be that common anymore.

He talks common people speak and actually uses big words when needed with great preparation.....in other words, he doan step on his dick....yet.

He'll be the nominee if the media doesn't find anything.....

NYS by population is Solidly Democrat and even more solidly liberal. Republicans usually win when the Dems have so messed something up that even even the yellow dogs end up deserting. She picked NYS. It had an open seat which was held by a Democrat. She started campaigning 2 years before the election (Sound familiar?). She was running against Guliani, until he developed "prostate" problems. The GOP then put a sacrificial lamb against her, and gave him no money. Guliani had a shot against her, but I think the real problem he had was marital.

I thought we had learned our lesson. Don't elect Presidents with whom you can have a beer or share any of this "common man" crap.

Mighty Mouse is playing the role of a reluctant candidate, carefully scripted and marketed as a product that will be wooed by the public. It's a bad example, but FT is the political analog to putting hookers in the Grand Theft Auto video game to attract boys. Marketing works.

Let me put it another way. FT makes great stone soup.

Consider that most people voting, or at least the swing voters make up their mind a couple of days before going into the polls and I worry about this guy.

Romney would be the worst for the nation from either republican or democratic camps. We need to heal our differences and be united.

It seems like every election cycle, the presidential candidates just keep getting worse. I cannot believe our choices this time, (or last time), Guilianni as a front-runner? For POTUS?? There's no one better than him or Hillary Clinton who wants to enter the race? Jesus-Christ-on-a-crutch...

RG could not get elected mayor of plenty of U.S. cities if not for 9/11 and giving a good condolence speech. He is a freaking weird man w/ a mean streak a mile wide and the personal morals of a snake. Hillary Clinton is Hillary Clinton. Need I say more? She is possibly the most despised public figure in American history. John McCain is a nut-case, with no ability to hide it. Obama may as well team-up w/ Micheal Moore as a running mate...

Pathetic field. Might as well be Fred. There was a good story in yesterday's NYT about the possible damage from the trophy wife. Women voters will have a natural "ick reaction" to a picture of their dad with a hot blond half his age. If Fred looked like a stud he might be able to swing it, but he looks like a senior citizen.

Fred's biggest issue is that he looks like crap in real life. When made up and on the TV.....he looks like a kindly Granpa....in real life he looks like a tired old lecher....

Fred is just another populist poser like 'W.'

After a long career making $750K/yr. as a lobbyist, he found it convenient to put away the slick lawyer trappings, put on a plaid shirt and play 'aw shucks' country lawyer.

For me, lobbyists are way below 'trial lawyers' in the food chain.

Best thing that could happen for the Democrats is a Giuliani candidacy. second best would be Fred T.

You could ask the same about Hillary.

Bottom line...in this day and age, it doesn't matter.

Now that you libs have ragged on Fred just who do you consider to be worthwhile from the Democratic side? I think Wayne summed it up pretty well. I'm a registered Democrat but will pull the lever for Guiliani or Thompson before any of the Democrats and the rest of the Republicans. My wife, a VERY registered Democrat vows she will never vote for Hillary- even if she's someone's running mate. When you add in the performance (and the public's perception) of the current Congressional leaders it doesn't appear the Dems have a shoo in by any means.

So TW/Shaun et. al. which Dem you do think will take this and why? Ragging on republicans is easy to do and not very constructive- tell us why you think your candidate is better.

Even though every time Hillary speaks she changes her accent and her view of what's happening now, we do know where she stands.

this is a thread about Mighty Mouse. Instead of (constantly) changing the subject to "what about your guy(s)", how about answering the questions first?

and I'm not really ragging on Fred. I'm ragging on all those jumping on the F bandwagon when no one knows anything substantive about him. It just seems odd to me that in a time when we need serious candidates, everyone is falling all over themselves for a guy with a nice voice.

I also find it odd that people are able to compartmentalize the lobbyist thing. there's nothing slimier than a lobbyist.
