David is right on - do a Google on "alcohol" and "weight loss" and read some of the hits. If you didn't know it before, you will be enlightened.
Until I basically quit drinking, I was not dropping significant weight . . . and I was running about 50 miles a week! After I cut the booze, I went from 200+ to 175 in a few weeks; I kept the running up. I still enjoy a glass of good tequila occasionally and it is now a special treat and the effects are much nicer. :D I'm 41 now and I never had a problem with booze and weight until around 38ish. FWIW. Best, Kurt |
Yep. I'm 45. My sleep issues with liquor began at about 40. I've been known to make a pretty outstanding margarita by the wife and friends but sadly I can't drink my own mixes anymore :( I have been good with wine/beer until the last 6 months or so. The other nice benefit is the $$ savings. Going from 7 bottles of wine per week to 2 is ~ $240/month saved.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss wine at night but so far it's been pretty easy and the results are hard to deny. |
I've lost 6.5 #'s since the 13th.
I'm pretty satisfied with that, given the exercise has still been pretty much zero. KT |
Check up time guys!!
keep the thread alive and we get slimmer :D WTF??? I was at 85.5kg then down to 84 back up to 85.5 ... maybe my scale is playing with me  Ok, broke down and bought one of those TV shopping massage belt devices ... lololoolo .... I'll report back in a few days with results. Anybody try one? |
I'm meeeeeeeeeeeelting... down 11 lbs in 3 weeks. I found an interesting formula for calculating ideal caloric intake.
For men; 24 x (ideal weight/2.2). Then look at your activity level. (sorry ladies, I didn't pay attention to the formula for women) If you are "sedentary" (no activity) then you get no addtional calories If you fall into "low activity" (desk job and some light labor) add 25% more calories If you are "medium activity" (physically moving most of the time) add 50% more calories If you are "high activity" (constantly lifting, running etc.) add 75% more calories If you work out constantly all day long etc. add 100% calories This will give you an idea of how many calories it takes to maintain the ideal weight you want to be. I want to be at 160 lbs. and I fall into the "low activity" category so I should be taking in 2180 calories a day. I assume if I eat 2180 calories a day I will maintain my current weight rather than get to 160. I need to eat less so that I can burn off some of my stored up calories (fat) to drop my weight. Someone posted earlier in this thread that 3500 calories = 1 lb. If I eat 2000 calories a day then I will burn approx. 180 calories of fat a day. Eventually I will get to 160 and then I can jump my calories back to 2180. Obviously these are approximations as everyone is different and 2180 probably isn't 100 % accurate but it should be close. BTW, I am not a professional! (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night :) ) This is a formula I saw in a book and the rest is my interpretation. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERYONE!!!!! EAT SMALLER PORTIONS!!! Later, |

Good job!! KT |
I'm starting a modified South Beach Diet today with just one week of low carb meals, not two, and no long bike rides. Then, I'll carb up a day before a long bike ride, carb up during and right after. The day after the ride, I will go back to Phase 2 or 3 of the South Beach Diet. I can't go too long on Phase 1 which is very similar to the Atkins because it just leaves me feeling weak. I can take SPIN classes while on Phase 2 or 3 w/o any issues.

So Chris, how many pounds are you planning to drop?
And, how's Lucas? KT |
[QUOTE=trekkor;3744004]Good job!!

I'm hoping to drop 34 lb by the deadline. It's doable. Thanks for asking about Lucas. He is doing very well. |
Hi All,
16 lbs and counting.... (37 to go) Here is a copy of the calorie formula I mentioned before. I can forward it to anyone who would like a hopefully more clear copy. It does include the female formula. PM or e-mail me and I will get it to you. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1202652894.jpg Hope everyone else is doing okay! |
I got to 82kgs!!!
Herbal life Body something or whatever shake drink with low"er" fat milk and lots of yogurt!! I don't forget to splurge 1-2 times a week. No use in killing myself to get there! Bought one of those BMI measurement scales too ;) Body Mass Index ... apparently 22 is just pudgy enough to be healthy ;) |
I'm still here, progressing nicely. 222 on the scale yesterday, which is 13 pounds since this thread started (almost 50 total).
I bought new pants this week, 38 waist. My old ones were 42's. Felt good. |
I've been sick for the last couple of weeks.
I've not lost or gained weight. Next week should be productive. KT |
Drinking wine on the weekends only. Now at 4 weeks and I lost another 4 pounds.
|
Still here too; down 10#s since Christmas.
Hitting under the 240# mark daily now, so onward to the 230# mark! I'm actually enjoying the process, it was loooong overdue. Cheers, |
I was getting depressed that the weight was not coming off faster.
I shouldn't be. I'm right on pace to meet my goal weight. Slow and steady. KT |
Stay with us, KT. Even a week of no progress beats giving up some of the progress you've made!
Have you been exercising? |
Actually, yes, I have. I don't really enjoy it either. :)
If I were to truthfully do 30 minutes each day, I know it would make a difference. I'm trying to motivate myself. KT |
This next weekend I'm going to be at the track taking some pictures.
I'm going to bring my bike and ride to all my favorite vantage points. I'm looking forward to that. KT |
