There should of been some searing, if done properly. The Vas Deferense?(from memory) can grow back together.
They should be cut, burned and a knot tied in each end.
Might want to get yours checked.

Hi Dipso,

As I said, (and I don't post anything on this Board unless I know whereof I speaketh), there was no searing. My doctor was cool and quick, I felt nothing (see my earlier post), I smelled nothing, and I rode my cycle back to work without any pain whatsoever. Perhaps he just let the Vas wither and die, or heal on its own (which the body is good at doing without intervention)

This was over 15 years ago, and my wife and I had had no babies since, we use no protection (neither of us have HIV), and so I know the Doc did a geat job. I don't think there's anything to check.

I wonder how many of the guys who had problems with pain were subliminally getting pain because their docs told them to use frozen peas, etc. My God, frozen peas would be painful enough all by itself. I know, I know, everyone has different tolerance for pain.

But, if one were to statistically chart all these replies, it seems our advice to the original question (does everyone remember the original question?), is DO IT. It does not decrease your manhood, it does not decrease your libido (in fact it allows a more spontaneous activity without having to worry about periods, cycles, etc.), and it does not hurt.

THERE IS NO DOWN SIDE (unless one feels one always wants to be rady to father another child). We have our two replacements, why would we want any more children in this crowded world?

Lucky for those who had no pain. I was practically immobilized for a couple of days. 2-1/2 weeks later, there were zero negative effects, and it's been that way for 10+ years. Definitely the only surgery I've never regretted (Lasik was a disaster).

I said it was fine. The peas were to combat swelling. Peas were suggested over ice as the peas would be cool and "form fitting", as it were. I did not (as I'm guessing many would aggree) add frozen produce till my sack was frozen and/or numb. A Doc had just taken some tools and jabbed about in there. Swelling was going to happen as a result of the "trama".

FWIW my Urologist friend makes a mint doing nothing but vasectomy reversals. Not always successful, these reversals

Think about this one carefully, Nostatic

Had it done years ago. It's been great! I've been visiting Haiti and having the best, consequence free sex of my life! Glad I don't need condoms anymore.

The procedure itself was more or less uneventful, save for the two attractive female pre med students present for the procedure. They were giggling like, well, school girls the whole time. They both did the "pre-shave". Damn good thing the doc left the scalpels in plain view or it might have gotten embarrassing.

The other odd thing - the doc's name - Dr Slocum.

Word of caution - don' take Aspirin or the like beforehand. I did and the Doc scolded me because my blood wouldn't clot.

I just had mine yesterday. No pain, little swelling and I used a bag of frozen peas for 2 hours yesterday. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sit around in my pj's at home afterwards, I had to set up a new drumset at church, but it wasn't bad at all. No pain today either... A root canal is much worse!!!

AZA,
You're fotunate. I work with the guy who did mine. Just prior to the vas clamp, the RN said "he's gonna hurt ya now". Might as well have said "he's gonna smack 'em w/ a hammer...twice." It friggin hurt. That night, I thought I was going to die but was afraid I wouldn't. The next day, my back was sore from trying to will myself through the table in an attempt to get away. It's fine now. In retrospect, I'm not sure it was worth it. Your mileage may vary.

edit: I also declined pre-op meds as I didn't think I'd need them and wanted to be able to help take care of the kids when I got home.

Well....For me all was fine until the next morning when I got out of bed with two PURPLE grapefruits between my legs.

I had to hold them and walk back-wards to the bathroom!

A week later I went and had the stitches pulled. I dropped by the pet store to get dog food for my 3 Huskies. I lifted the 50# bag like any 6'2" man would, except 1/2 way during the lift my newly healed scar R I P P E D open!

I had to have a 5' tall 16 year old girl carry the bag (of dog food) out to my car. "Gee mister, why can't you carry this" uhm well uh I hurt my back at work a couple of days ago!

I had a vasectomy in February and during the follow-up visit two weeks later, the doc looks in the room and asks if he can bring in an intern. I say no problem and in walks this blond 24 year old drop dead gorgeous female intern. Any way the doc explains he wants her to see what a post-vas looks like. He takes the family jewels and shows her the scar and if I had any swelling or bruising, where it would be (I didn't have any). The intern asks if I mind if she takes a look. "Go right ahead" I said with a grin. Now she takes Big Jim and the twins and pulls and tugs and looks for a few minutes. As she was taking off her gloves I said "I feel like I owe you dinner." She turned three shades of red and she was lost for words. After the exam, the doc came back into the room and said I would definitely be the topic on campus that night.

I had a doc who clearly had sense of humour. His assisting nurse was about 22, georgous, nurse uniform undone several buttons too far, the whole Benny Hill skit.

You know theres a problem when shes got a good hold of the goods but nothings happening because there is a man advancing on you with a what appears to be a Bowie knife.

Quick, pain free, couple of days of mild discomfort- highly recommended, there is no down side. Your old lady will thank you, possibly more than once.

It's been a week now since mine was done and it's been slightly sore, more like a bruise. No real pain to speak of...

Mine felt so nice, I did it TWICE!

So, it's 1990, and I've decided to get out of the Navy after 8 years, and we have two boys. I figure, let the Navy snip me before I go so we don't have to worry about more babies while we're going to school and working two jobs, etc. *Snip* goes the tubes, and I'm on my merry way, with instructions to lay low for several weeks after the procedure to let it take hold. Well, things get busy as you process out of the military, so I neglect to return for the "confirmation donation", and never really give it a second thought. They showed me the sections of vas that were cut out, for God's sake, I should be good to go.

The following April Fool's Day, my only daughter was born, a few months after my second procedure.

The irony is that I don't know what life would be like without her. She's balanced the family perfectly, and it's my wife's favorite story to tell.
