Dr. Caligari (the 1989, Stephen Sayadian) version.

A rare film, but if you can find it, I will guarantee it is the worst movie you will ever see.

I'll back that with a free Porsche part to the first person that can honestly claim it isn't.

Well... I agree that the Tom Cruise _scenes_ in War of the Worlds are about the worst I've ever seen.

But Spielburg does such a great job with the special effects that the movies itself is actually pretty good. And, then there's James Earl Jones fabulous introduction.

What you really want to do is record the thing and cut out all of TC. In fact, I'd be happy if we could just cut him out of the entire world of film...

Easy Rider is a pretty good documentary.

Some people think it is fiction -- but none of them grew up wehre I did, when I did...

Ohhh now, Tom may be a nutcase...

Last Samurai is one of his films that I did like quite a bit. Interview with the Vampire, as well. Other than that, I can't think of any I really liked.

You guys don't have the breadth of experience watching bad movies as I have. However, lately I haven't been one to review as many as I used to. Some of the movies mentioned here are no where as bad as the worst I've seen.

I consider you guys lucky not to have seen this one.

From Wiki:
"By merit of its writing, unconvincing special effects, and multiple production errors visible in the final version of the film, Plan 9 from Outer Space is sometimes regarded as a leading candidate for the title of "worst movie ever made". It has also earned Edward D. Wood, Jr. a posthumous Golden Turkey Award as the worst director ever." I must agree.

There have been so many bad movies, it might be easier to vote for the worst movie of 2007. For that, Pirates of the Caribbean is my choice. Of all the horrible movies made in '07, can anyone suggest a worst movie given the budget, star power, studio, etc.? I didn't pay to see it, but if I had, I'd be even more pissed about it.

The movie was a tremendous waste of resources and talent and an insult to the movie-going public. The Disney suits must have said, "Let's present this crappola and see what sticks with the public". It stuck/stunk to the tune of $1,000,000,000 in box office receipts (thus far). I'm sure many enjoyed the heck out of it.

Anyone can spend $24,000 and less and make a horrible movie. However, to spend $125 million and end up with the same $24K result is a testament to the movie-biz in Hollywood. It's a sign of the Hi-Def future. The ROI ($875 million) guarantees "Pirates" and movies of this ilk will outlive "Rambo" and "Rocky" for years. Caddyshack seems sublime in comparison.

porsche356a,
How do I pick up my free Porsche part?

BTW, the worst foreign film I can recall is Arabian Nights, a 1974 Italian film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Maybe I was too young to grasp the metaphysical message. The plot was so disjointed, even the erotic scenes weren't enough to prevent the headaches. Maybe another viewing is in order.

Sit through it. I dare you.

I won free tickets to that pile of poop in High School.

The worst part is, I've seen most of these stinking piles of poo.

Another stinker, The Quiet Earth.

Most of the Star Trek movies staring "The Next Generation". These are the campy, only if you are an insider, movies.

Movies I've walked out of: Pulp Fiction - My Wife's daughter was too young for it. I'm glad we walked out before the anal rape scene.

Bladerunner is one of my favorites, but the original. I haven't seen any of the re-makes.

You gotta watch Dr. Caligari first.

Plan 9 from Outer Space? Not even close.

Not his real name. He's Francis' nephew.

Some movies I deem to be the worst I saw:
1. Con-Air.
2. The Fountain. (As mentioned above)
3. AI (Also mentioned before)
4. Bubba Ho-Tep (Also mentioned)
5. The Naked Lunch.
6. The Sheltering Sky.
7. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (the Depp remake).
8. Gorillas in the Mist
9. Agnes of God.
10. They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

Now, some movies that were mentioned that I actually enjoyed, and some of which are in my DVD collection:
1. Bladerunner (Have a copy)
2. The Gods Must be Crazy
3. Plan 9 from Outer Space. It's so bad, it's good! (I have a copy on DVD)
4. Days of Thunder. Certainly not my favorite movie, but still a decent flick. (Got a copy of this too)
5. 2001: A Space Odyssey (Have a copy)
6. Beetlejuice. If you don't understand Tim Burton, you just won't get it!
7. Lord of the Rings (Got a copy). Classic Epic. Long, but worth it.

My $0.42,
-Z-man.

I always thought that was the only reason he got acting jobs.
It seems like he wants to be Marlon Brando or James Dean.
Too much of a stretch.

Lots of Tom Cruise bashing here. Admittedly I think the guy is an ego maniac nut ball - but I'd be lying if I said all movies he did sucked. Some of the older stuff I really liked - The Outsiders, Taps, Risky Business, Rain Man, Born on the 4th of July, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maquire, The Last Samurai, and of course Top Gun.

We own the War of the Worlds DVD. I dislike the movie as a whole but the opening sequence with the arrival of the tripods is really really good. The sound and visual effects were amazing.

I always got the impression he thought he was Elvis. That got kinda creepy when he married Lisa Marie...

Hahahaha...When I was 9, my dad took me to see Police Academy 3 or 4. Being a 9 year old, I thought it was hilarious. Walking towards the car after leaving the theater, my father turned to me with an angry look and said 'Don't EVER waste my time like that again!'

Have any of you dared to see the movie Happiness?

Dan,

I understand he didn't pick or enjoy the movie but I can't imagine saying something like that to your kid.

I hope you have a better relationship with him that one line leads me to believe.

We have a great relationship, he must have just been really frustrated. I dunno...but it stuck in my mind and always cracks me up when I think about it.

I was a precocious, mouthy, sneaky little bastard back then. I must have deserved it.
