Jeff I agree with you on the speculators. 10 years ago they were just neat, older Porsches and then they got a cult following (example the 911S registry) and people got crazy over them.

I am in agreement with the market softening, but it is obvious that owners of older 911's like myself are just holding on to them and simply enjoying them. Why sell them unless your desparate or fed up! The longhoods will rebound as the economy turns and they may even enjoy a newer popularity comparable to the 356's. Its inevitable!

I remember back in '02 or '03 helping a buddy find a '73 RS. The dollar was still very strong against the euro and I was finding outstanding examples in Europe for ~$50k U.S. Great, rare colors, documented histories, etc... Not Pebble Beach concours but very, very nice drivers. And they were relatively plentiful for sale.
At some point I found him a Gulf Orange car in the U.S. that was a well-known car among collectors and r-gruppe, etc. The guy wanted around $100k for it and my friend said pass. That wound up being really cheap a year or two later. FWIW, the buyer could have bought 10 of them for that price but didn't like that sore 6-hole feeling. ![]()

I don't think it is a 911T/R. The VIN noted on eBay is 11835422 which is a 911 coupe. I think the T/Rs of 1968 were made from a 911T (being the lighter body) with a 911S engine. And:

Well nice or not, if it is not a REAL 911R it won't bring the money he wants from a discriminating buyer of collectible 911's. I just noticed it has a fender gas door too. Now that is NOT 911R stuff.
Your car is very nice, and I respect you for not trying to palm it off as a real RS. |

I've got 2, and I'm keeping them both. 71 & 73. Probably both be 'barn finds' for someone else, in about 20 years, when I'm gone.....

![]() ![]() Nonetheless, many things increase or decrease the value of any car (including an early Porsche):
I previously posted a car with an asking price of $8500. The prices of a running cars go up from there. I enjoy driving my car almost every weekend. It is not an investment but a passion. My car does have a proper 1973 911S number on the engine case, and I continually try to exceed the rev boundaries: ![]() Some people worry about the preservation and show car awards, and some just drive 'em hard with little regard to the structural integrity of the body and engine.

No I do not think that is the car. It should have a gas filler neck and cap through the hood. That one also has metal front fenders. On a real R the front clip and the doors and deck were glass. The only steel was the rear fenders.
