I always try to setip suspension and alignment for an aggressive streetable setup to be able to run tire pressures for even temps across the tread for maximum traction. I don't want my car so low and stiff with such aggressive alignment it cant be comfortably driven everywhere not just at the track.
I've only messed with suspensions on the 951 and 928. Could have made the Boxster S faster, but was leased (could have been tweaked to reduce the street car understeer making it easer to start rotating on turnp-in). The deciding factor was the lease payment was high enough couldn't really afford the then expensive Boxster suspension changes and I would have had to put it back to stock at the end of the lease. To get the BoxsterS to start turn-in better I popped the clutch on turn in. Not nearly as elegant and smooth as using braking on turn-in and trailing throttle, but it did get the job done. Man, wish I could still work the brake and throttle blip with my right foot.

I have a suspension setup that is a total compromise. It has to work for street driving on long mega thousand mile road trips and the Autocross. I don't care at all about being the fastest at the Autocross. I just want a fun drive at the track that is stable and safe. I have been autocrossing too long to push hard or modify my car for track only use.

Pretty much the same compromise here. But lean a bit more on the competitive side. Enjoyed having a car that could make FTD autocrossing that I drove comfortably every day and on trips. Don't mind spending some to make if faster as long as it doesn't hurt the comfort and daily drivability and reliability.
On a Friday I drove my white 951S to Hallett on a club race weekend. Had finished my fast setup and had gotten some slotted rotors. They stopped my brakes smoking at autocrosses. Wanted drive a couple of sessions at the track to see if they would get too hot. Had boiled the stock brakes the one time I took it to the track before. During my first session I was trading laps with one of the club racers in what I thought was just a silver 911. After the session he came over and being a complete track novice immediately apologized for holding him up. He laugh and said he had trouble keep up and we were pretty even. He was real curious asking all kinds of questions about what I had done to my 944 Turbo and what kind of experience I had. Later I found out it wasn't just a 911. It was a trailered RUF CT-R track car and he was Ron Forestall a well known fast club racer. Made me feel pretty good. My second session there was some *@#$!! in a Miata that would let people pass. And if you tried he would jump over in front of you like it was a race or something. It was just practice sessions before the club race the next day! Had to pull off in the pits and wait for him to come around and jump out in front off him so you could get a whole lap in before you came up the @#$$@! again. Think all the faster cars just pulled off and quit the session because of him. Oh yeah, the slotted rotors did the trick.

Good morning folks.
At the super speedway in Charlotte, NC I managed to pass a genuine GT2 on track. Really. I will admit the wife was driving but she was no slouch. So I have passed a GT2 on track! That is the track where I hit the highest speed in my 911. Way up in the 5,000 RMP range. The track is only about 6 feet wide there, as I remember. Somehow the pros can drive at 200 MPH three abreast. It must be part of the speed vortex that warps space and time. It was surreal hearing the instructor say whatever you do, don't hit the brakes as we were hurtling towards the banked corner at triple digit speeds. I was a pussy and lifted the throttle. Then after the corner I have to stand on the brakes and slow down to about 50 to get back on the infield and start another lap with a huge grin on my face. It is burned in my brain how loud the engine and wind noise is screaming along at 5K+ in 5th. ![]()

No doubt the biggest reason I have my car is the fun of autocross or the occasional track DE day. I long ago quit caring about going fastest, I just love buying tires. I have never owned a car with enough HP to spin the tires. I think the stupidest thing possible to do to tires is do a burnout. I just don't understand the fascination with burnouts or doing donuts.Paul Newman said something like taking a 40 MPH corner and 39.99 MPH and get through that is way better than driving fast in a straight line.
I don't care a whit that other drivers in more modern cars can take that same corner at 50 MPH. ABS, stability control is doing a lot of the driving on those cars. To dive a 30 year old 911 with zero driving aids is just the driver getting through corner, not the car. How many other 30 year old cars can drive over 1000 miles to Monterey and spend a week driving around at the sights, spend an hour on track at Laguna Seca and then drive home with nothing but adding gas.

I wouldn't know what to do with myself in first class. Consider me jealous.
Glen, the fastest I have been in the Cobra was 4500 in 4th with the 2.73 rear end. That puts it about 145. It was still pulling strong, but so was my sphincter.

Many years ago at Road Atlanta before they put in the kink on the back straight I rode in a Daytona Coupe and he hit 150 or 160. One week later I rode in a genuine 911 1973 RSR back when it was just a cheap used race car. He was going so fast I think we went through hyperspace. The same guy had a 908. He was an airline captain and had some nice toys.

I have never been lucky enough to go 1st class on an airline. My dad talked about the old days of Pan Am before deregulation. He rode on a 747 from DC to LA and there were just a dozen passengers. The stews just invited everyone up to 1st class. He said every passenger had a stewardess of their own. They played cards and had a great flight.

With all of our trips back and forth to work on the house, our mileage plan status lets us move into first class when there's seats available. So, every now and then we get moved to the front of the bus.
I used to travel every now and then from DC to Israel (for work), and once I was lucky enough to get a business class upgrade. That was sure nice.
