Glen, that driveshaft is on the Cobra replica in the picture just above.

Richard, your entertainment devices sound very complex.

Supposed to be close to 70 today but it is currently only 60 and we get snow tomorrow.

We went to a car show this weekend and there was a '71 Cuda and the sign said it was Curios Yellow. Before I could say anything the daughter says out loud "That sure doesn't look like Curious Yellow to me". I thought it was maybe the lights but it looked more Top Banana to me.

My entertainment devices were fine until upgrading to the new AppleTV.

Devices...I have 5 sources that can be switched between with the TV remote.

1. The SonyTV's antenna TV, local broadcast channels. (also available on cox cable.)

2. The SonyTV's Smart TV, internet services... Amazon, netfiix, crackle, crackle, and more. It had a Sony Pay per view source they called Video Unlimited which Sony killed for PlaystationVue.

3. Cox Cable Box that has a bunch of network channels including local broadcast networks, plus a pay per vue. They used to have some networks with on-demand shows and movies, but haven't watched any of them in a while.

4. AppleTV with Apples movie and tv rentals, also has other internet services some pay, some not, like netflix, hulu, etc. and can stream movies and music from my computer or iPhone. Can also use it to stream my computer display and sound if i just want a 65" monitor. And now the new AppleTV does DirectTV Now streaming of all their network channels like cable.

5. Mac Mini with Kodi, finds and lets me stream movies, music, TV serials from the internet. Can also be a media viewer for Movies, TV, music stored on my Mac.

The sound output from my TV goes to my Receiver which is my 5.1 surround sound system.
The TV is used as my Source hub. All the devices are plugged into the TV with HDMI for video and sound. I can use the TV remote choose which source the TV displays.

Used to have a 34" CRT with my reciever as the hub for my Cable, VCR, and DVD.
Then I got a 54" DLP with HDMI. Had to replace my receiver to fit my new TV Stand.
With the new HDTV, Receiver, and TV Stand I boxed up the VCR and DVD.

Found my iPhone could stream music to my receiver and got the hankering to stream my Laptop.
Got an AppleTV to stream music and videos from my laptop to the TV. Still using the Receiver as my hub. The new receiver did HDMI. This let me watch Movies on demand from either Cable, or the AppleTV and the AppleTV also had TV shows.

The DLP started messing up. And I had just entered the time of the sitting around with my Foot up so I got a bigger LED TV. It was a Sony Bravia Smart TV. This let me hook up the receiver as just the sound processor and use the TV as the hub instead of the receiver. Discovered that the movies on demand from the Sony Bravia internet movie on-deman was usually $1 cheaper. And it would also let me rent movies at SD instead of HD for $3 or $4 dollar cheaper. Some of the older movies it didn't make any difference so why pay more. Also each of the ondemand systems, Cable, Apple, and Sony, had programming the others didn't.

Then my Receiver died (Pioneer's quality really went down). Got a Sony to match the TV and now it's volume is controlled by the TV and will power on and off with the TV. All I ever do with it is use as the surround processor and amps for the TV.

Had an extra Mac Mini with HDMI output. Installed Kodi on it and am able to stream movies and TV over it. So mostly stopped renting movies.

Now trying to decide if I want to go with direct TV Now or stay with Cable.

I would love to come out with my own Streaming Service. Instead of having to choose between different packages to get the channels you want, you just choose only the channels you want access to ala carte. Or even better it keeps track of which channels you watch and you only pay for those! You would make less per subscriber, but be everyone would switch to that service and you would be printing your own monies.

We have the computer run through the receiver which is our source switching device, and we have OTA. The Wii used to be there and our Atari unit is hooked up as well. The computer will do OTA with DVR capabilities. Kodi will stream from one device to another with Kodi on it but I have been looking at PlayLater to cast Netflix and Prime (plus a bunch of other channels) to Kodi as well to have all our eggs in one basket so to speak.

We have a few people with BYOD phones for Exchange and we tell them up front if they get lost or compromised we remote wipe the whole phone.

If you are on Office365 there is Mobile Device Management, MDM allows you to selective wipe and is a free part of Office365.
Have ours setup to require a password and lock after 3 minutes of inactivity. You can also require encrypted backup.

The devices are managed by a system Microsoft calls Atune. It offers a whole lot more features if you want to pay $13 a month per user. It can lock down company data so it can't be copied to any app except for approved apps, or emailed either. Even the screen shots, and camera can be locked down. It will even automatically download approved apps and setup share point access.

It was interesting, Backed up then selective wiped my iPad. It removed all the company stuff, both email and some files I got from OneDrive. Then I restored my iPad and it did NOT restore any of the company data or accounts.

Seems like there ought to be apps for Kodi that can provide access to pay services.
I've discovered each service has it's own content that the others don't.

Morning all.

For our home TV viewing pleasure we have a Tivo system. We love it. The main unit is in my home office. We have two Tivo "minis' that are slave units on the living room TV and in the bedroom. The minis operate the main unit so if you set up something to record, it records on the main unit. You can stop watching a show in any room and go to the other TV and continue the show or any task you want.

One of the neat super handy features is the commercial skip. Some shows allow you to hit a button and BAM, all the commercials are skipped and the show starts again. That only works on 30 or 40% of the shows right now. It has built in Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now and more.

In the living room we have a stereo amp for the surround sound system and in my office I have an amp with two stereo speakers and one center channel. No rear speakers.

In the bedroom just the TV speakers are used.

The TIVO system has about 50 or so movies we have recorded from HBO and other sources. It also has a "one pass manager" to set up recordings and a wish list so it will scour the directory for a show you want to see. It learns your viewing so it starts to record as suggestions movies and shows you might like.

It is a great system.

Our policy is one minute of inactivity which is pretty reasonable for most people with HIPPA related documents. Some complain that their phone automatically locks when they use Exchange on the phone. I tell them they will get used to it, otherwise they can disconnect from Exchange and have it not automatically lock.

Playon is a paid $39 app but it looks like it has an interface for Kodi to cast a bunch of channels including Netflix and Prime. We have recorded a bunch of history channel stuff with the other app and it works well so we will probably get the Playon app as well.

How to Seamlessly Integrate Netflix and Hulu into Kodi

Our computer does similar for recorded shows. Plus I can edit the commercials out if I want to.

Weeee That was fun!

One of the several computers that we have around here is from 2004. It is just like the one I am typing this on. It is a old Dell 8400 series computer that we bought new. We liked it so much we bought 4 of them. One of them started making loud fan noises. Dang POS fan can't run 24-7 365 for more than 13 years without making noise.

Anyway I had to silence it as it was too annoying and needed to be fixed before it locked up and overheated the computer. So open it up and yank out the power supply, open up the power supply and get the fan disconnected. Of course the connection is soldered onto the board inside the PS.

Oh Joy. I dug out the soldering iron and I am pretty sure whoever used it last was doing wood burning decorations or maybe plastic burning. It was so covered in black crap I could not get the solder to even melt. I had to spend time to clean the tip enough to tin the tip with solder before I could do and soldering. Finally get it out and the other fan we had was worse than the one I just took out.

At Porsche Parade in the goodie store they have the Brad Penn display and they give out samples of high grade oil for sewing machines and fans. I had to get the cap off the fan and I oiled it and it works great now. I put today's date on the power supply so the next time I have to get into it I will know how long the oil lasted.

When I went to fire up the system the BIOS said the CMOS battery was low power so I "got" to replace that and go through the BIOS settings and change the date from July 2004 to March 1st, 2017 and disable the floppy drive and set up the raid.

You got a hobby that takes a lot of attention and concentration you enjoy doing that you don't get interrupted while doing it? That worked for me. First it was building and flying R/C planes, then it was autocrossing. Flying R/C planes did teach me to totally focus only on what I was doing. Did the same thing autocrossing by driving in The Zone. If you've ever watched the movie Driven, it's like that.

Good Morning,

When was the Macan supposed to get here?

When I bought the X3 it was "on the boat'. It took a week. It was here in OKC the evening after the salesman called and told me the boat had arrived in Houston. Did find that one of the Service Advisors at the dealership also bought an X3 on the same boat. Don't know if that sped things up or not.
