We didn't have enough snow for snow days this year. They scheduled it this way for some reason. They don't get out any earlier in the spring either. Odd because the teachers usually want a break.

Old geezer voice: "I never had a spring break until we moved to Alabama" and I started 11th grade. I never went anywhere except to work on any school break. I was too busy making money so I could buy a car.

Our family only had one vacation ever. When we lived in Hawaii one summer we flew to the big island and spent a week at the volcano. It was a military resort and real cheap. We went to the beach at Bellows Air Force Station but that was $8 per day.

I would have to stop and think about it for a while but after one of the moves to a new school I noticed we could not have meat on Friday's. I asked my parents and they said the area was very Catholic and it was going to be fish on Friday's for everyone. The next year we moved again and I got to have red meat on Friday's again.

We usually didn't go anywhere on spring break. Did spend a lot of weekends fishing though.
Always too a two week trip trout fishing in the early summer.

When was a senior in HS did take a girl to the beach at South Padre Island.

When I lived in Dyersville, a very Catholic and home of the only Basilica west of the Mississippi river I would order a double cheeseburger for lunch during lent. As a protestant I felt it my duty to keep my beef growing friends in business.

If you like fish, they have some very good fish fry's on Fridays around here. I don't care for it much but everyone is committed to telling me how good they are.

I do like fish we catch, bass, bluegill, crappies, walleye.

Back in my high school days my parents got a cabin at the lake. I would come home from work after school and they were gone until Sunday afternoon. I was really crushed

On most occasions they came home with fresh bass they caught. We ate a lot of fresh lake fish back then.

Yeah, I (fondly) remember the Friday night fish fries. Good stuff. Even in public school, if you bought their hot lunch on Fridays, they were serving fish.

Yep, I miss Dad's deep fried crappie filets with Mom's home made tarter sauce. Grandma's chicken and noodles. And Aunt Lena's yeast rolls made with lard.

I've been there, stopped in when I was writing a book on Ertl toys. It's a pretty impressive place for being so far off the beaten path. The location where they filmed The Field of Dreams is in a cornfield near there too, as I recall.

Morning all.

Mrs. Carrera and her Master Gardner's class has struck again.

"We" are going to remove a large chunk of the front yard and make it into a garden. It is the area just on the other side of the sidewalk from the other large area we converted to garden. The worst part is the sprinkler system I put in 20 years ago was designed for a yard. There are four spray heads in that area that will have to come out. That means the remaining heads have to have the flow to keep the well from over-pressuring. The even worse part is she wants to convert the garden areas into drip irrigation. Those flow is gallons per HOUR not minute. One hundred feet of drip irrigation running for an hour is just 15 gallons. My well puts out 18 gallons a minute. I don't have a pressure tank, never needed one with a sprinkler system. The valves open before the pump kicks on. ARGGGH

To add a pressure tank to the system means building a pump house to prevent the tank from freezing and there is no good place for that.

This is gonna be a challenge.

Neighbor across the street converted a full third of their front yard into garden with wood chips. They told me it was because they wanted to spend less time on their yard. They spent way more time than if they had just mowed the grass. They moved and we have new neighbors. Haven't met them yet. Wonder if they are going to change it. I hope so, it's not nearly as attractive as you think it would be.

Want to irrigate my yard. Problem is would like to re-landscape it first. The dirt in my back yard has migrated downhill to where it is now a foot higher than the bottom of the stockade fence across the back of my property. Have had 3 different landscaping companies out to put something together to re-landscape, put in some beds, irrigate, and sod. They seemed real excited about the project then never heard back. Now there are 4 trees on the back property line that have been butchered so much by the power line maintenance they need to be taken out as well.

We had an irate new customer call looking for the thumb drive delivery of his project. I remembered shipping it last week. I looked into it and indeed it was shipped to the PO box he gave me as his shipping address. The tracking number said it was in the box waiting for him to pick it up since the 14th. I replied to his email where he requested we ship it to that address and said it was delivered, just not picked up. He sent me an apologetic email saying his wife was supposed to get it from the PO Box but for some reason she did not.

Yea, and we did precisely what he asked. I did not just make up that address for my physic abilities. He told me to mail it there and I did.

I have been watching some of the Dr. Who episodes. I had to turn on closed captioning on one episode. I could not understand what the actors were saying. They had such thick accents it was gibberish to me. Closed captioning helped a lot. They had a Scottish lady talking to an Irish man and a Cockney guy and It was impossible for this English speaking American to decipher.

The do have some interesting plots. It sure is nice to see a totally different plot and not the same old same old same old rehashed plot. It is annoying to see a typical cop show my wife likes and pick out the evil bad person pretending to be the good guy boss in so many American TV shows.

One of the cool concepts is a alien that you will forget about the very second you look away. How can you battle a foe that no one remembers even exists.

He doesn't use dropbox. He uses an ftp server I run that you upload your file and it sends a download link to the recipient. It hides the file, you can only get to it from the link. It also automatically deletes the file after 14 days. Has a desktop app you can see if they downloaded it or not. You can also just drop the file on the app and it will upload it with your login. It also has a web interface. Instead of dropbox the feature is called Drop Ship. Provide access as part of hosting an email account with me. Had it long before dropbox ever existed. That alien sounds like it almost has the "somebody else's problem" field from the Hitchhiker's Guide Books. Has a space ship that becomes invisible by generating a somebody else's problem field. Nobody can see it because it's somebody else's problem.
