And if you know how to operate a computer, that was all bloatware.
I bought Win 10 PRO not Windows for dummies. Screw all the games and social medial bloat. Just make it run as fast as possible without the useless bells and whistles.

Yeah, found out the other day that my Win10 Pro hadn't updated since April.
Now the VPN works again but sadly so do all annoying popups asking if it is okay to run Powershell...now where did I turn those off...

Goooooood Morning.
Off work til Monday...May the Holiday Festivities Begin! Mechanic just called and woke me up. Told me to make plans to pick the 928 up Tuesday. Oh yeah, When I saw my Brother at lunch yesterday he told me he would call and tell me when to be at my nephew's for the big family GTG Turkey meal. Then he actually said, "Wear pants to Thanksgiving dinner." Thought that comment was hilarious and cracked up laughing because my mind immediately flashed to showing up butt necked from the waist down. My answer was I am wearing suspenders so I don't have to loosen my belt when I eat too much. He probably made that comment because I was wearing shorts yesterday without my knee high compression socks and you could see all the scars on my legs from the sores I got from my foot incident. Have never worn shorts to fancy family GTGs like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinners. His BIL cracked up as well. Ain't families fun!

So it is done with the 3 month long detail?
Is the garage all ready? is your checking account ready? I know my engine rebuild on the Elky was stupid cheap, and the 911 was kinda pricey with all the "while I am in there" things I added but I ended up with a new engine, clutch system, rebuilt transmission, and all new hoses and parts.

morning all. With 136k on the clock I don't want to know what an engine rebuild will cost me. Might just part it out.

Yea, I don't think it is possible to get cheaper than the small block Chevy engine.
Back in the 1980s I worked with a chick that drove a air cooled VW bug. She drove it to work and mentioned the engine sounded funny. I checked the oil and it did not even register on the dipstick. The engine had high miles anyway. I found a short block VW engine for under $500. I charged her $100 just to swap the engine out. It only took a 1/2 a day to do it by myself. Now from what I hear air cooled engines are way more expensive because all the good parts are gone and only crappy Brazilian parts are cheap. I have not priced a VW engine in over 30 years. My $1,700 brand new 350 engine is just a bargain. After 57,000 miles it still is just doing great.

I have seen at least two v-8 swaps into a 911. I shudder when I see them.

The engine for the Cobra was pretty cheap for the power it makes. The heads were the most expensive but the valve train is good for 7500rpm, though the same setup runs 8400rpm in the stock car the heads were originally out of. I never run past 6000 since the power peak is under that.
When we priced the FI for an E motor it was more than what we paid for the car. Prices on early 911s took the fun out of them. Richard, they can take Exchange from on premise if they pry it out of my cold dead VM host. Isn't 365 for the number of days it doesn't work right out of the year?

The thing he had to replace was the rings. It's that 10 hours labor each way that makes it more expensive. Was originally quoted $7K. He did other stuff as well, redoing heat shields for aftermarket headers, new X-pipe made to fit headers, fix front tranny seal leak. New front tires (they went flat). Tuning to optimize for headers. and a few other little things.
Plan to spend the weekend clean up the garage to fit 2 cars better. And no checking is not ready. Plan to drag payment out a bit since took so long to get. Am sure from comments he is expecting it. Says still working on getting it tuned better. Doesn't want me to go over 3/4 throttle until get 1500 miles on it. When I got the BoxsterS new it was nothing over 3/4 throttle and 4000rpm until 2000 miles.

One of the guys showed up at the autocross in a Miata that sounded a bit different. He had dropped in a small block. I don't remember if it was a LS6 or newer but it had crazy power for a little car.
I bet there are more Ford 32 roadsters out there with Chevy power than Ford power.

Company has a 1948 F1. It is NOT stock just a quick google shows it is worth around $30K or so, would be around $40 stock. They had to street rod it up. Has a big Ford CobraJet with some kind of fancy heads on it. You can't hardly leave a stop without spinning the tires, same as the Convertible Super Snake they had was. Cool, but not really drivable.
Am starting to get a little excited about the 928. Got to remember how many times it was gonna be done in 2 weeks.

Up until a couple of months ago I called Him, and eventually just quit calling. This is the 3rd time He called me and said next week. However, this time He said he was planing on me picking it up Tuesday and would call Monday with a status report.

There is a guy with a 928 V8 in a 914. That is nuts. Could put a big air cooled 911 engine in that thing possibly Turbo and not have to deal with the plumbing. Would sound awesome though.

I have seen 914s with Chevy small block engines. I have never seen one that was well done, always a hack job.
Converting a 914 to a 914-6 is not real hard except finding the sheet metal for the engine. Still not cheap. One of my friends had a 914-6 that he converted to a 2.7 liter engine. That was a new engine back in the late 1970s. Of course the coolest engine conversion on a 914 was done by the Porsche factory. They dropped a race car 910 - 8 cylinder engine in two of them. They welded a steel roof on it to keep it from flexing too much. https://www.conceptcarz.com/z24885/Porsche-914/8.aspx

Didn't they even call that the 914/8 in line with the 914/6.
When I had my BoxsterS thought the RUF Boxster 3800 S would be cool. Boxster with 3.8 liter 400hp 911 power. About 10 yrs ago RUF USA did the conversion for only $20K. Think I am going to be happy to have a 928 with a 440hp 928 motor in it. And I sure hope the bill is going to be less than $20K!
