Back in my 914 days we had an autocross at an old go cart track. We were having fun and one of my competitors had a 914 that had some mechanical issue that I don't remember after 30 years or so. Anyway he offered to let me use his race slicks for a few laps. So we jacked up up my 914, and did a wheel change. It is astonishing how much more grip it had. I never did get the tires to slid in the corners as the track was short enough to keep speeds down. I did have ABS all of sudden. I could stand on the brakes and the car just stopped. It was just mind blowing that the tires had that level of grip that the brakes could not lock them up. The 914 just stopped at an astonishing rate.

I bought a pair of "Dan Gurney for President" bumper stickers and a couple other doodads from his AAR website yesterday. Package arrived today. First of all, a bit surreal to see my name on the same piece of paper (shipping label) as Dan Gurney's. But very generously they also threw in a bunch of other stickers and patches and lanyards in the box.

Yesterday morning a house just over 4 miles away blew up. The house is just splinters, and the 14 year old daughter was killed. Her brother and parents are in the hospital but likely to recover.

I have some friends that live just a 100 yards from that house that blew up. It really shook their world, but no damage. Lots of neighbors and friends are shifting through the debris looking for documents, photos and the memorabilia that is important. The rest can all be replaced. It was a pretty nice place and no doubt they have insurance.

They are thinking it was a propane leak at the fireplace log lighter. Those are illegal on a propane house for that reason. Evidently the father was going to make coffee and he plugged in the coffee pot and felt a shock and the boom.

Saw a overpass where a propane truck blew whn i was younger. Truclk was on the interstate and all the gas stations and restaauraunts at that interchange were flattened.

Been having staycation since May. They called it furlough till August then are called it laid off. Now am just unemoloyed. Trying to file the paperwork to be called disabled.

Thought house was haunted. All kinds of racket on front porch then saw an ugly ghost image looking like it was peering in the kitchen window. Then disappeared in a rattle of noise. Further intrepid investigation found it was an oppossum.

Phew, the boss's wife had me up early and outside just after sunup, with a shovel in hand. Digging in the dirt again. In the front yard several years ago she made me plant a bush and it was fairly small, and she had me use a plastic ring to keep the grass out of the bush area. That bush has grown, and the plastic ring has started to fall apart.

So out comes the round plastic ring, and in goes a square brick edging material. 8 pieces HAD to be in a square, and not an Octagon, which would had been easier. So just one trip to the big box store to get more soil, and lots of digging to get the Bermuda grass out and the roots of the grass go down 10 inches. Any roots left, it just grows back. And Bermuda just loves to invade a garden area, so it is like candy to Bermuda grass. I dumped the extra dirt and grass chunks in a sunken area in the back yard where a huge ruse bush was. It died from new disease and the roots are finally rotten away so it was low.

Two full hours later, we were done. She was out there and did lots of pointing and grunting and she placed all the barrier cloth under the bricks. It was sure fun.

Back to Monday.

Now the shower head is having issues. It leaks from the sides, and has pitiful water flow. So I guess I will remove it, and get to run to the plumbing supply store to see if there is a rebuild kit for it, or if I "get" to just replace it.

It sure is fun to own a hose.

Morning all. I think weekends need to be 5 days long and work week about 2. Its no wonder I'm not the boss.

That just means the two days would be two 20 hours days. BTDT, it sucked.

I have had a few 100 hour work weeks. I felt like a zombie at the end of that. And that was when I was in my 30s, no way I want to try that again unless the money is big top movie star level of money with tax avoidance (NOT evasion) methods used.

Back when Tyson was at his knockout peak most guys I know said they would get in the ring and last 18 or 20 seconds against Tyson if they got the money the professional boxers were getting.

Yet most of us seem to work on days that end with a Y.

The old outside key pad for my garage door opener became rather hit and miss, and only worked on occasions. So I ordered an exact replacement. I could not get it to work at all. I like to think I am reasonably intelligent, and when forced can understand instructions. I followed the instructions step by step until I could go through the steps like a pro after a half dozen tries. I admitted defeat, and called the guy that installed the new opener.

He came over just a few minutes ago, and tried once, and then said oh, yea and walked over the opener on the wall that we use to open or close the door as we go into the kitchen. Just lift a flap, and press the learn button twice and then Wham! Bam! Thank You Ma'am! it works fine.

No where at all in the instructions does it ever talk about that step in the instructions. And the big yellow button on the opener is just not needed at all.

I have the step by step instruction written down in my phone's notes. My "backup" brain.

WOW, it is so pretty weather wise here. 71 degrees, and low humidity. Just wonderful weather.

Need rain here. Lots of dry wells in the area. Ours is holding on so far.
Leaves are close to peak. Has been warm and dry. 77* now but cooler weather is on the way.
