I've immersed or soaked many phones, pagers and even my digital camera recently. I've always been able to get them back going. not so much with the iphone.

There may be some of those for the rugby. Just have to ask at the ATT store. The phone itself is tough as nails.

Yeah, few people seem to have any success reviving a water-soaked iPhone.

Here is my theory - electronics get fried if there is voltage on the wet circuit board and components. With some devices, they have a chance of being "off" when you dunk them; the iPhone is always "on". With other devices, there is enough internal room for water to run out plus you can open access doors and remove the battery to help drying; the iPhone is very tightly packed inside and there are no doors or removable battery. Just a theory.

For what its worth, I've killed a Blackberry by dropping it in the swimming pool, and I've revived a laptop submerged in muddy water, a DSLR soaked with bottled water, and other unlucky devices. So I, too, have had success and failure.

Sorry about your iPhone. I do think, if you look around, you'll find a used 3G for not a terrible amount of money. Then just protect it and it'll be fine.

That's funny.. obviously you don't know my long and colorful history of being safe and careful. my record time for breaking a new cell phone is driving about 8 blocks from the ATT store, walking about 45 ft from my truck and climbing down over the edge of a pool. managed to crush the front screen on a brand new phone in about 15 minutes. I should work in product testing, extreme abuse division

You are in luck, reports are that Apple will be coming out with a "ruggedized" iPhone.

Here is a spy pic.

IT'S BAAAACK!!!!. plugged in my Iphone 5 minutes ago and suddenly it lights up! whoo hoooo! . it's been deceased for 4 days, but at the last minute I decided I'd give it one more chance before taking out the implements of destruction and starting the autopsy. doesn't seem to be any brain damage or loss of function after this near death experience. let's see how long it lives before it dies a horrible sweat drowning death again.

Related Query:

when on a call (I use the speaker phone) how can I lock out the keyboard?

The problem is that on these gawd-awful long calls with my gf, my ear touches the virtual keys and sends the beep noise over the connection. Bad for me & she hates it.

Yes - I know - getting her to not force me into ultra-long calls WOULD work - it is not an option.

Not really sure what you mean.

While talking there are no virtual keys that make noise unless you open the keypad. If you do open the keypad you can hit the hide keypad option on the screen.

But you say you use the speaker phone and your ear touches the keyboard? Confused.
