And how many people have you given a ride to on your bike as opposed to a car? I have a drag bike I know a bit about fast bikes. There is just something about a fast car that can't be compared to a bike.

Tongue in cheek of course. I'd love to have that Turbo Cab...but can't even hope to afford it these days. Adrenaline rush is not compromised as a result though, thanks to the scooter.

If you're looking for cheap adrenaline rush on 4 wheels.... let me suggest a shifter kart.
Most fun I've had with pants on.

With all due respect, most of the comments on this thread and other threads about these cars might as well be kids on a Honda board talking about Porsches in general. Nobody here owns a car like this and hardly anyone has even been in one.
I've been in and out of the Porsche scene for 30+ years and have been in one of these cars. I also had a young lady friend w/ a brand new turbo cab back in 1989 that was generous w/ the keys. She never felt like driving and let me drive it all night including long Malibu runs, canyons, etc. I can remember being not all that impressed w/ it in stock form compared to other 930s I'd driven. Maybe it was heavier(?) 997 turbos have 200+ HP on that car and it feels like more than that. The G-forces of a new turbo on the track will make a lot of passengers puke. The grip/power/braking is devastating, even when compared to other cars in its class. Everyone is entitled to their personal preference in cars/bikes/spaceships/whatever but when people with old 911SCs or similar just blow-off this car it's like someone w/ a 1980 Yamaha Seca knocking a new R1 or Ducati 1098S (that they've never ridden) because "I like my old POS better..." ![]()

Anyway. All I said was that it would be one of my absolute dream cars for daily driving and commuting. That is of course if money was no object... but as it very much is, it will remain just that - a dream.

Is "no-brainer" referring to a motorcycle rider after being mowed down by a soccer mom in her 6000 lb SUV talking on the phone? Motorcycles aren't for everyone. I can understand the appeal, but it doesn't appeal to me.

![]() Respectfully, if you're mowed down by a soccer mom while using your 500 hp Porsche to it's potential, I suspect you wouldn't fare much better...maybe worse. Lastly, I don't think anyone asserted that bikes were for everyone. If an adrenaline rush is your goal, and you don't have $115+K to throw around (and you're not "afraid" of soccer moms while riding) a bike is, in fact, a no brainer. Someone pee in your cheerios this morning?

Sitting at a red light, getting hit by a 6000lb SUV, it doesn't matter what the "potential" of your vehicle is. |

If you're not worried about being mowed down by an SUV while you're on a bike, you're not particularly bright. I'm sure that most of the riders on here would agree that situational awareness is exponentially more important while riding. People walk away from highway speed auto accidents every day, I don't believe you can say that about bikes.

A MC rider should be 'afraid' of everything that enters the street so stop with the SUV hating already. Getting mowed down by a SUV or a Smart (dumb) car is gonna be equally devastating to a MC rider. BTW - the safest place to ride a MC is on the highway at speeds just at/above the flow of traffic. There are several KEY strategies a MC rider can use to GREATLY reduce the risk but that's not the topic of this thread...

I've been riding for more than 30 years and have managed to avoid any physical harm (to me or bike)....so I'm aware of the behaviors needed to enjoy a bike and live. But...that wasn't the topic at hand. If you'd like to discuss riding safety, feel free to start another thread...I'll be happy to chime in!

I'd have to disagree d-moo. I would suggest that an MC rider should be "aware" of everything and ride/plan accordingly. There's no room for "fear" as a defense mechanism when an evasive maneuver is required. Training and experience are much more valuable (of course, this applies to Porsche Turbo's too). Now...where's that new thread?

A guy on a bike who was in the right...dead right.
http://www.lebanon-express.com/articles/2009/08/12/news/local/local77crassh.txt What's weird is that Cindy & I drove that stretch maybe 5 minutes before it happened if the article got the time right.

I was re-using the 'afraid' from another post - aware is the word I would have used as well.

This line from the story got to me:
"Most of it looked like head damage and there was obviously trauma from having his foot torn off,” Johnson said." My motorcycle days are over...looks like this guy didn't have a chance, nothing he could do...

My motorcycle days never began.
I drive way too fast already- i would definitely kill myself in short order on any kind of bike that i have interest in owning. |
