Remanufactured Subaru Engines Or sell the car with disclosure to the new owner that they've got a rebuild in their future. The old Ej22s would go 1/4M mi between rebuilds. The newer engines are not as robust. |

I had to be like Matt... :p
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354726073.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354726095.jpg Picked it up at the end of last week, so only have a few miles on it...not even broken in yet. This makes our 12th Subaru, which is starting to compete with number of Porsches (15). More interestingly, with our 2012 Impreza (see previous page) and our 912E, all of our cars have 2.0 H4 motors! :) |
Pancakes
My daily driver is an Impreza. I have to say the engine and all-wheel-drive system was a major selling point for me. It's practical, affordable, and versatile - I've taken it on ski trips and on the track.
I guess I've always had a thing for "flat" engines. Porsche and Subaru engines have both been adapted for aircraft use, which I find interesting. And my favourite Ferrari is the Testarossa / 512TR with the flat-12. JW http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/...410-resize.jpg |
I sold my 02 bug eye

This my Subaru. EJ251 engine with 530 hour on it. |
I know Subaru made great motors way back when (WW2) and are good cars but these days the people i see driving Subarus probably have a Prius parked with them in the drive with an equal amount of left leaning bumper stickers plastered on them.
|
I've never cared for Subarus, never owned one, and they are not a car that I would really consider if I was looking for a family driver today.

New new theory: Own a silver Porsche? Likely own a silver Subaru and a silver Saab :) |
I have another answer to rust proof driveway..Volvo V70 Wagon, drips more oil than the 964 . the Pcar was a daily driver for years till I got a "deal" on the Wagon and spent a small fortune changing fluids, etc
Say did you know that while Volvo leather seats are as comfortable as can be the leather is also crappy?!?! In line with other theories, the Volvo , like the Porsche is silver.. |
It has been said that Japanese fighter planes powered by Subaru after being shot down in many cases the motors were intact and reused.
Still not a fan of the marketing or the cars. I rode in my Dad's friends new Brat when i was a kid and remember him trying to impress my Father with its off road ability. My Dad drove a F-350 or 250 at the time, anyway this friend of his had us in the Brat in the woods and he had to turn it around and backed into a sapling size tree (1.5" diameter a few feet off the ground) and it really messed up the Brat bumper. I've never forgotten my Dad's surprise when we got out and noticed the large dent in the chrome rear bumper. He got a kick out of that. They do have boxer motors though which is cool but the styling i cannot get on-board w. . |
Yes, Subaru's styling has gone way down hill, except for the STI. They also should have never killed the Legacy wagon, especially the GT Legacy wagon.
|
My silver WRX wagon (above) had a reprogrammed ECU, injectors, fuel pump, Perrin intake and intercooler hoses, with a Helix up pipe and down pipe, no cats and Invidia exhaust. It would inconstantly do 0-60 in 4.6 sec with an off boost launch.
I was passing M3s and Boxster S's on the straights (in my wagon with my roof racks :) ) at Watkins Glen, it was so fast it was too easy. Then it started to rust, the transmission didn't like full throttle when I shifted and my son was turning 16......then I found the silver 911 and never looked back. The son is getting the very silver 900S in the spring. The 911 is so much more rewarding to drive (except when it's snowing) |
Currently have a 6 SP A4 Avant which to me is the ideal DD ( especially with an APR ECU mod) :) Before that I had an 6 SP '04 Allroad. Prior to the Audis I did have a couple of Legacy Wagons. Too bad they stopped production of that model.

The wife's 2010 Subaru has been a tank. I want her to replace it with the new Crosstek but can't justify it since hers is in such good shape.
