How True!

1978 911 SC (DD in Spring, Summer, Fall)
2003 Audi A4 Quattro (DD in Fall, Winter, Spring)
2006 Subaru Forrester (Kids main ride, my "worker")
2005 Honda Pilot (Wife's car)

Sorry, I don't want to sound like a snob - but I just can't do the japanese cars.

My daily driver is a '10 BMW M5 (I use my company's Chevy 4 wheel drive truck when it snows). My wife drives a '10 Porsche Cayene GTS.

'11 911 GT3 (on order)

MRM, you don't sound like a snob, you sound like a wealthy new car buyer.

My wife drives a 2000 Outback and loves it. Light controls, easy to park and the kids load up real easy. I maintain it and it's easy to do that too so that is a massive plus.

Would buy again, newer, without hesitation. Also used to hate buying Japanese dross, but quite like Subaru's independance and engineering philosophy. Pass in my book.

I have never owned a Subaru. Went from a Nissan Armada to a BMW X5 Diesel

I would think this is the most accurate statement :) A 2011 Hyundai Sonata ferrys the family in big cushy comfort when the 911 and Boxster need to be relegated to the garage (don't knock it till you've tried one out, it shocked the hell out of us when comparing)

Funny thread.

I own an '09 Impreza Hatchback and also an '02 F150 4x4.

When I bought the Subie I drove every comparable available. The Impreza was the only one that seemed to enjoy being thrown around with reckless abandon. In winter with hakka snow tires it is the funnest car I've ever had the pleasure of thrashing. I love the agricultural sound of it, gives it character.

Take it with a grain of salt though, I'm not really a Porsche owner as I drive a 951. ;)

What is the fuel economy of the modern Suburu? Looking at Impreza/Outback and would like to know the REAL number, not some government fantasy number. Thanks

Doesn't it though? My Forester XT is like a WRX on high heels. I not only throw it around but throw things in it I'd hesitate to in another car. A Forester standing in line with the dump trucks for the scales at a quarry is a http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/happy.gif sight.

I see a consistent 19 city/24 highway/21.5 combined with the XT. Lately I've been trying to convince myself that I'd be happy with a CPO diesel E-class but (1)they're far less engaging (2) I fear long-term costs after warranty expiration (3) there's that throw it/thrash it/get it dirty aspect I'd miss. Plus it wouldn't make nearly as good a Porsche parts hauler.

My WRX & Legacy both saw no better then 21mpg of Premium Unleaded.

Just traded our STi to pick up an e46 M3. With studded Hakkapelitas, it feels just as stable in the snow as the Subie did. 911 is the daily driver in the summer.

My 2008 Impreza 2.5 (i.e. not a turbo but NA 170 hp flat four) gets between 22 and 23 city on summer or winter tires. I drive comfortably most of the time, sometimes "quick", but almost never "fast". It's on the highway where I see a larger difference with the tire selection. I've seen over 30 on the highway with winter tires (usually 28-30 MPG), but most likely I'm 26 - 28 on the highway with the wider 7x17 wheels with high performance sticky tires (Spring through Fall).

'87 Porsche and '10 Outback 3.6R. Also owned lots of VW's early on. I think there's a correlation with those as well. Something about that boxer engine :)

Thanks gentlemen, when I look at what most of you get, it seems there is no free lunch....unfortunately.Doug&Julie seems to have the newest machine and the best returns.....do you think they have got that much more efficient over a couple of years? I have a diesel Landcruiser and now that the nest is empty, was considering down-sizing. My rural driveway is quite long and steep, so retaining a 4x4 is big during that month or so, of snow. I like the apparent robustness and reputation of robustness that Suburu has, so I may end up with one. Wish you could disengage the front drive though. Cheers

86 911, 06 Mercedes e500. So they make cars in places other than Stuttgart? News to me...;)

redstrosekNic 03-07-2011 02:33 PM

I drive my audi 100 once in a while, but my daily driver is my '93 nissan maxima. The 911 is only for sunny days...

Jagshund 03-07-2011 03:38 PM

Does it count if I own a 911 and a 914 with a Subie drivetrain?
