Help me Build an Anti-Terrorist Wall

I want to build a wall. This is an outdoor covered front porch.



My middle eastern neighbor has its mirror beyond that white lattice with about 10' between the houses. He likes to sit out & smoke & yell his secret terror plots into his phone. Or have loud discussions with his secret 'cell' members. He pretends to be a fruit importer but I know the truth. His children are equally loud but not as obnoxious. We don't get along ever since he called my wife a liar over his mutt's crap on our lawn. I have seriously considered getting outdoor speakers & blasting Hava Nagila at him to shut him up.

So, I need a sound block. I want to do something floor to ceiling & from the post to the brick wall. I will back it up against the wrought iron railing & fasten at the top & sides. I was thinking about just hammering some outdoor plywood up & painting it but it would look pretty blah. Maybe some vertical T&G? I don't know. It is actually a simple construction project but I need some help in what materials to use.

I don't know if I would want the permanence of brick. Here is a shot front the road.



In the winter, the porch is bare & exposed to snow & brisk wind etc.

Good idea, but the retirees across the road would not be amused. They complain about the noise too & have mentioned it to him.

Are you sure it's a good idea to build a wall between you and your neighbor?

Ok... Yes I understand his rantings can be annoying but have you welcomed him and his family to the neighborhood?
What about putting on a traditional American dinner and inviting him and his family over?

Who knows you may find he's a decent person and actually make a new friend.

As far as calling your wife a liar... It's certainly wrong but maybe there was a misunderstanding.

The point is he's there now. Might as well try and make the best of things.

I tried, Peter. Then he asked us to cut down our apple tree because a few apples fell on his lawn. And our other mature trees were blocking the sun for his new fruit trees so we should trim them. And it goes on & on. The dog crap incident was the final straw for me. He is just an ass.

My neighbor *****ed about my pear tree once... dropping ripe fruit on his lawn..

I pruned the tree..... now when the fruit is ripe..if I am not around he picks the fruit and we share the bounty... crazy..

It sounds like you tried... If he's an ass then you shouldn't invite him into your home.

Meanwhile... Build the wall and be happy. Let him rant. He can't make you do anything on your own property.

I would make it solid so that it blocks as much sounds as possible.

Cement fiber sheet over a wooden frame would be a good option.
Easy DIY and you can make it look like a rendered brick wall without the weight and expense.

You need a large wall sculpture on the end of your porch that is made up of many small, highly reflective panels, angled such that at the times of the day that your neighbor is sitting out there ranting, the sun's light is concentrated directly on him. Make him feel like he's in the middle of the desert, far, far away from any oasis.

Try a wall made of reactive armor - sends an even better message.

Webb beat me to the pork thing. I like the aluminum foil idea if the sun will reflect back on his front porch. What ever you do, make it nice on your side, and really, really offensive, or just butt ugly on his side.

I was telling my wife that a picture of a menorah might be a thoughtful touch. Or maybe Golda Meir.

My wife likes the sandbag idea. Beige goes with everything after all.
