Love it, Geary! Watching another classic surfing DVD by Scott Dittrich in my truck this morning as I drove around. 1982's "Adventures in Paradise".

Here's the very beginning of it.....talk about getting you pumped!!! BTW...nice left by Bobby Owens to start!

Bolt board project nearing completion. Finished the red paint yesterday and then last night I made a bolt template out of paper and taped off and sprayed with yellow (3 coats!).

Got her hung up on my gate with some red rope I had but may move re-position it and use a different fastening method - but for now she's up!

Thanks Geary - it did go pretty fast. Not the greatest patch job but I got impatient and kept thinking some kook's gonna steal it anyway at some point.

You can tell by that surfer's body position in the 2nd pic he's not going to stay on that board for much longer.... That's a huge wave too and a steep drop.

Is that you, by any chance? ;)

Too expensive for me.

I used to buy Australian Tracks which was printed on paper not much better than newspaper.

Geary 11-19-2020 02:35 PM

Not me, Baz ..
.. but this is Big Lefts, a spot first surfed by me (so far as we know).
Only tow-ins are possible there, due to a very shifty peak. Again not me, but my first wave there was about this size ..

BEN THOUARD, France +++ Winner of Red Bull Illume 2019 Photo Contest with his underwater shot of ACE BUCHAN kicking out from the barrel through the wave in Teahupo’o, Tahiti.
Thouard said: “I‘ve dedicated the last few years to shooting underwater, looking for new angles and a new way to shoot surfing and waves. Tahiti has some of the clearest water in the world, so it was easy for me to take advantage of it and explore it. This photo was shot during a freesurf session. Luckily I was right below, breathless with my waterhousing waiting for this moment and I was able to capture the whole sequence of it. This frame from the beginning of the sequence is the most powerful one because of the water around his face and body.”

I have some of those 'newspaper' Tracks issues from back in the day in my collection. As well as Surfing World (SW).

:p

Nice! Collector items, for sure.

Back in the 80's the pro surfing tour had an event here and I opened up my home for some of the tour folks to stay including the head of competition - an Aussie named Al Hunt, aka Fatty Al. Al had one of the largest, if not the largest, collection of surf mags in the world. He had an eBay handle something like "surfmags", IIRC.

He had a business back in Oz that re-furbished parking lots. I still have his business card. That's when I learned they were called Car Parks in Aussie lingo. :p

Here's the flyer on the event here. It consisted of three contests. One here, one in Jacksonville, and one in either Cocoa Beach or Sebastian Inlet - I can't remember. The person who did the best out of all three won a new Nissan truck.

Still enjoying my new truck stereo which plays DVDs and in particular "Bustin' Down The Door'. I'll get sick of it pretty soon, I promise. :) For now I'm still hearing things I didn't hear all the previous times I've watched it so that's nice when that happens.

To wit......the DVD has a section for deleted scenes and I started watching a few of them today. There's about a dozen and so far I've watched 3. One of them consists of Rabbit explaining how he got the nickname "Rabbit". He was playing pinball and had two games going at once and was jumping back and forth between the two games keeping them going. Someone yelled out he looked like a Rabbit......and it stuck! Funny - I always thought it had something to do with his ability to get slotted deep in the eye.....

And here they were shutting it down to spectators lest it become a super spreader...

Too bad. FS2 was having some great coverage. I got to see John John and Slater earlier in the week.

I saw Slater win it in 2011(?). I was standing right at the edge of the waterline. One of the coolest sporting events I've ever attended.

26 years already? How time flies. I can see Maverick's from my office.
