There's something magical about being out in the ocean....floating and bobbing around and feeling the motion of the surf under you. I wish you all the best in your pursuit and hope you will stop back from time to time with updates. Cheers to you! SmileWavy |

Was just thinking about you today, Geary, while sitting in my truck at the local Walmart waiting for a break in the rain and watching the 1981 Scott Dittrich classic "Follow the Sun" with some classic footage from Hawaii with Larry Bertlemann, Marvin Foster at Pipe, Michael Ho, and a bunch of other world class surfers ripping it up. That new little double din stereo I installed in my truck was so nice to have! https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/mM8AA...LbT/s-l400.jpg |

Hey Geary, are we going to see some of your great single track snowboarding shots that you come up with for us this year.
I love those shots! Cheers Richsrd |
Oh .. I'll have to find that movie, Baz .. looks like a good one from the old days.
I don't have any new carving photos Richard, but here's Marshall & my parallel pow tracks .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605117553.jpg .. and this photo is maybe my favorite "hike" photo: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605118754.JPG Skiers take the straight path, while a surfer always finds The Wave .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605117666.JPG Snow season's almost here for me, and I'm super excited to be heading to our mountain home in a couple weeks .. |
Beautiful photos, Geary....thanks as always for posting them & good call, Rich! If you have Amazon Prime you can view that movie for free with a trial membership in the surf movie network.

Inspired by the bolt board I posted on the previous page, along with Geary's comment, I decided to make one for decoration here.
Maybe put it on one of my bamboo gates. I found a short board in a dumpster at a local storage unit facility years ago and stashed it away for just such an occasion. It's in need of some repairs before painting but I already bought everything I need for the project including Rustoleum apple red paint and yellow in a rattle can for the bolt. Should be a fun project! The inspiration: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1601759252.jpg And the donor board: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605225870.JPG |

Hi Charlie .. Darn, I thought for a moment that I'd see another Pelican on the slopes ..
Mt Bachelor has become a zoo, with huge numbers of CA transplants. Tamarack ID ski area is investing another 500M over the next few years, eventually tripling in size. We love it there .. Very first skier's track off the new Tamarack chair (last December): http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605285838.jpg Someone at uncrowded 1961 Ala Moana: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605285356.JPG |
Those are the sort of shots I love seeing Geary.
I hope you have a great season there. Have you run into Jeff Kopel there in bend? A good friend that moved there from Kauai? Uncrowded at Ala Moana, haha. I've been in crowded there in the middle of a full moon night. Baz, those pics of those boards in that collection have stuck in my mind too, those big wave boards in the ceiling over the pool looked pretty good too. I've still have a few nice ones in Kauai, I'd love to have here. It's not cheap anymore shipping boards. Cheers Richard |
I haven't run into Jeff, Richard .. but I didn't ride Bachelor at all last season. (Spring season was eliminated last year, or I would have had 5 weeks there.)
This is one of the North Tahoe areas we used to access with very minor hiking. No one else ever caught on .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605302156.JPG Eddie was a regular at Sunset & Waimea. Here's Eddie @ big Waimea: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605302262.jpg |

51 years old. :( RIP Shmoo..... "'Shmoo' will be remembered around the world for his flamboyant surfing on tour, epic commentary and love of the core surfing values and lifestyle," underlines Surfing Australia. John Shimooka was battling depression. He lost his wife to cancer in 2019, and Garcia's suicide attempt also knocked him around. He had recently supported mental health organizations and always spoke openly about his own condition. "Shmoo" was planning an emotional visit to Hawaii for the first time in years. John Shimooka is survived by his son, Brandon. |
Perfect weather today to catch up on a bunch of stuff...including my Bolt surfboard project!
I used some filler compound stuff this morning to patch and fill in a few of the dings. Then tonight after it was nice and cured I sanded and then applied the first coat on the deck. I used a 4" foam roller, which worked great! Tomorrow I will paint the bottom. I will probably give her two coats just to make the red really stand out. The yellow Bolt is going to be epic....can't wait! :p http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605586583.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605586583.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1605586583.JPG |
