Paddled out twice last weekend for the first time in a looonnnng time. Dropped some weight, wetsuit fits, board floats me :--) Timing was off, but it sure felt good to be out there. Waves were only shoulder high on sets, but to me, few things are as relaxing as sitting one your board in the lineup. May need to add a new fun-style to the mix.

Cool score on the kneeboard. Reminds me of George Greeough in that clip at Santa Barbara sandspit in Endless Summer

NO !
Not a kneeboard, but Steve Lis (along with a couple others) developed THE FISH from the kneeboard.

Wet already - but waiting for a good swell to really let it loose.

I'd love a fish. The bay where I live the waves are generally crap, but fishes have so much get up and go and generate so much power in mushy waves, THAT I MUST HAVE ONE.

That's a GREAT score! Perfect time of year to ride one too.

I had several fishes back in the day. VERY maneuverable........VERY fun! In Florida they were REALLY practical - especially in the summer - on those days when there was only a ripple or small swell to eek out some rides. Those fishes didn't take much to propel them. You could ride waves all the way into shore.

We had some that were like tables, they were so wide.

Here's me (right) and my buddy "Big Jim" with our fishes approx. '74.

PS - Thanks for the excellent video, JCF! That last barrel was unreal! Brings back memories of how fun these boards really are!

Back in the seventies I had an early Mark Richards twin with a whole lotta toe in. I guess that was a bit like a fish. It went flat out anywhere other than in a straight line.

A lot of people are making "fishes" these days - some better than others - eg, Kane Garden (another San Diego shaper) - but no one is really making a true, old school Fish - one with all that "toe-in" and straight, wide outline all the way down through the tail.

Not sure why. They do rock, eh Baz ?

That Skip Frye is a real piece of A R T - I will try it a couple goes and then hang it on the wall - it is so beautiful, the pics don't do it justice.

An early original Lis Fish was on the auction block for somewhere around $ 2000.00 a few months ago - not sure if it sold, don't really care.

They are just SO COOL

The guy I got the Fish from has an old Mark Richards board.

I tried it and HATED IT.
I never could find a way to get it to work for me.
Beautiful board but I never could skateboard and it seemed like that same kind of choppy rail to rail transfer without the smooth glide the Fish gives.

Wall hanger was my first thought too. Just too nice and rare to take out and beat up.

Must not have been ridden much when new. It's tough not to want to go out and give it a go.
Nice find.

There's some really stunning late or early day stuff at just under a minute in on this vid. It's not tight focus work, but the colors and atmospherics (realized with the perfect soundtrack) are breathtaking.

Be sure and go full screen with it.
