Well, we've had just enough snow at our place for a bit of hiking. Still waiting for a big dump or two ..

Over Thanksgiving I did a trip starting in Playa Madera, Nic, stopping at spots heading south via San Juan Del Sur, Nic, Playa Grande, CR, Playa Hermosa, CR, finishing in Dominical, CR where a fellow Porsche Owner's Club friend retired. Here is where my friend stayed: Hotel Chancletas - Aserradores - Nicaragua | Accomodations, House Rental, Surf and many other things | Welcome to our website I stayed at a rental house in the Iguana complex at Colorados when I went - and here is what it was like the first day out front.... https://scontent-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/...13_n.jpg?lvh=1 It was fun....:)....until the boats arrived each morning then....it was crowded...:( |

I was caught surprised by the crowds. Madera was very remote? When we first pulled up the surf was glassy and 3"-4", but walled. Nobody was out. The lady at the surf hostel said it gets "peaky" at high tide. Tides charts are obviously no secret to the Nicaraguan locals. As the time came up they came out of the trees like ants. When the waves shaped up, the crowd looked looked the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier on a September Sunday  Surf tour boats from San Juan Del Sur dumped off Gringos by the half-dozen at a time. Low tide at arrival... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1387294712.jpg f |
The computer age did us no favors in CR .. For a couple years, we had it uncrowded at Pavones. Then the internet brought us wave forecasting, and packs of Floridians would fly in ($300 round-trip fight) and be on the beach a couple hours before the big swells would hit.

All the talk of Slaters drop in this years Pipe Masters, great as it was, just made me think of those two waves of TC's.
The one when he played chicken with Derek Ho and then went on a second reef BOMB ...And then "The Snap" - greatest surf moment of all time IMHO |
As the Shark Capitol of the World - we are currently graced by a visit from Katherine....a 14-foot-long, 2,300 pound Great White Shark

Thanks for that link - that is very cool.
That's quite a trek in a month. And even if it reminds me who's the boss I wish her good luck. |
