Have fun dodging the icebergs Baz. It seems so unfair FL getting cold ;)

Thanks Bill!

Water temp right now is high 60's....not bad at all for January.

Air temp running 50's-70's depending on day of week. Been chilly the last few days but going back up again now. Usually the cold doesn't stay long here!

All the best to you and your pup! SmileWavy

Bill Douglas 01-09-2015 07:23 PM

Hehe, thanks. The pups and I have been out chasing rabbits. It's hardly a blood sport when these useless mutts chase rabbits, but they themselves think they are pretty good :D

Good on 'em, Bill.....they're protecting their fifedoms!

Drone video......

Wow, thanks for the drone video.

GF and I and dawgs did Christmas at Piha (Auckland) and saw some nice waves. I didn't go out because I didn't want to get hurt  but it looked very nice. The next beach down the coast is called Karekare had some nice waves and a guy had a drone out filming his buddy. So I was kind of curious as to how they looked. The drone had a GoPro silver edition hooked up to it so it may have been quite good.

Hot and windy here but still hitting the beach :)

My shoulders are killing me, and the waves were small, so I did something I said I'd NEVER do. I went into the line-up with a paddle board :roll eyes:

11:00 this morning. Beautiful Day for the short board. Offshore winds. Great overhead swell. ...Six guys on every wave. Time to take up golf.

Ha! Don't remind me! I am burdened with shame! I haven't done it sense. When it's small and my shoulders hurt, I'll stick to mountain bike riding. I'll rethink this after 65.

We had an "old timer" here known as "Old Man Kelly". His real name was George Kelly and he was a really good artist. This was back in the 70's and 80's - he surfed a long board and would actually run you over at times if you were dumb enough to paddle out in the vicinity of where he was coming in on a wave. Very nice person but ----

He wore a life preserver type thing around his chest. He must have been in his 70's and 80's and was still surfing. He died a while back but left behind a legacy. That's all you can do. ;)

Great story Baz. He must have had good genes. Many of my friends have given it up due to ear issues, bad knees or shoulders, or they've just gotten old and lazy. …But then again, I think my friends and I are all old enough to be your father!

I'll be 61 in June, Craig so maybe not. Still charging....just not as hard though...:)

I have ALWAYS had the goal to keep surfing until my last day. Hopefully will be in my hundreds when that day comes.

1970 World Surfing Championship at Bells Beach winner Californian Rolf Arness with his Dad.........Marshall Matt Dillion!

James Arness had a house in Makaha and surfed a long board in his day.

This is insanity…But to escape this year's crowds, I might actually consider it in a drysuit.

I surfed Humboldt Jetty in the early 80's. That's the furthest north I've surfed. With 6/7, booties, gloves, and a hood, it was tolerable, but damn my cheeks and lips were freezing….and that was high 40's.

P.S…Baz, you're an old codger too. I would have never guessed.

Craig T 02-02-2015 06:54 AM

Humboldt Jetty…Brrrrrr!

My stomping grounds for a few years, Bill. I lived 20 minutes away from Piha (Titirangi), so hit it almost every day after work ('86-'90). Some great memories ...
