The most amazing story and this little girl is awesome! |
A couple springs ago, I took some photos of this proud dad and his 4-year-old little girl ..

Cool stories with the kids!
HEADS UP!! The A S P is going off in Tahiti in macking barrels! Cheers Richard |
Well, I took wed off to celebrate my birthday, planned my day starting with surfing one of the local spots I use to go in my youth.
Just my luck, it was flat, but I figured that would paddle out since the dolphins were swimming. After paddling a few hours, I figured I would head in so I could hit the new indoor go cart track and about halfway to the beach a shark pops up in front of me:eek: So I calmly stop paddling, and take my arms out of the water and wait, then paddle kept that up until I got in. Later at my surprise party, I was telling a buddy about it and asked if I checked the local surf report, 911surftreport.com, And pulled it turned out he was there taking pics at the Poles and got a few pix of me .http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1408753256.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1408753317.jpg these were on the site. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1408753561.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1408753597.jpg |
So the shark takes a look at you Byron and decides it's not interested, that's concerning ;)

The contest in Tahiti is back on in a new swell making for some spectacular tube rides.
It's streaming on. 2014 Billabong Pro Tahiti - ASP Slater is up right now. Cheers Richard |
Thanks Rich - couple of Aussies out right now....
|
Glad you got to see a bit of those beautiful conditions yesterday Baz.
The heat with Slater was very onesided with Slater getting five 9+ point rides in the heat. The previous heat they paired the two remaining Hawaiians in the same heat And it was a barn burner! Put it this way, Seabas lost with a two wave total of mid 18 points . John John surfed beyond his years with a poise in the thick of seriousness not seen since Gerry Lopez at his best. If the conditions come thru today it could offer some of the best contest tube riding EVER! Get that Tevo fired up. Cheers Richard |

I hear ya Todd, I could not pull myself away yesterday.
Since your day is a loss already check out the highlights from yesterday on the ASP site. The swell seems to have peaked yesterday, they had thought it was going to get even bigger today but doesn't look that way. Still hard not to watch such perfection :-) Cheers Rich |
I don't think it gets any better (for the observer) than Teahupoo. Incredible balls on all those guys ..

Nice swell heading to SoCal. Tues-Thurs should provide some epic surf. Time to head to the beach and ditch work :--)

I guess the surfers who post here are too busy surfing to post now. |
These big uns off SoCal were in national news segments tonight. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZPO1zpDqQ8I?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re-organizing a back bedroom full of old memorabilia.....including quite a few surf movie flyers from back in the day.
Now this one.....well Mike Purpus had come to town (one stop on a US tour) showing this film.....me and my friend David Vester got in free in exchange for stapling these flyers on all the telephone poles we could find plus store windows, surf shops, etc. David had an accident a few years later on his moped and suffered some brain damage....and then several years afterwards passed away. Very sad as he was a very talented and aggressive surfer as well as had quite the extroverted personality. A good friend whom I'll never forget. I even cut out his obit from the paper and look at it now and then. I'm going to post this on Mike's FB page as I bet he would get a kick out of it..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1409635022.jpg |
Our son and his best friend started a Keiki (children's) surf meet over 10 years ago, which has since become the most popular contest for youngsters on the Windward side. Every year, big name sponsors like DaKine & RVCA bend over backwards to help us out. Some of the kids who began competing here have since become pro athletes.

Getting a small, fun one at "The Corner" in Westport, Washington on 9/11/14. Water: 56 degrees. Air temp: 70 degrees. Wind: E @ 10-15 knots, all day long. Kind of like a typical SoCal winter day.

Nice little break there, Stone!
Geary - thanks for the very cool pics and story about your son. Here's a pic taken by my friend JL when he visited Oz in 1984..... https://scontent-a-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/...f2&oe=54C2D11D |
